Adult Chunky Beanie in Cranberry & Bark – Free Crochet Pattern

I am realizing now, 2 MONTHS AFTER completing this set, I did not take a photo of the hat by itself. You’ll just have to settle for a picture of the whole set on me!

I have been working very hard on my Valentine’s Day hats, lately. They are going to be split between my cousin Tiffany’s children, Madison and Tyler, and my sister Kynara. I made matching Owl hats for my sister, her son Sebastian, and her daughter Kayliss. And I decided to give my Creamy Short Slouch Hat with Visor and matching Ribbing Scarf to my niece, (little) Kynara. But what to give my sister’s husband, Pedro?


How about my Roving Hat and Scarf? Great idea!


Because the beanie pattern as provided by Bernat via Yarnspirations definitely wouldn’t have fit him and I ran out of the Bark yarn to continue alternating colors, I decided to use the remaining Bernat Roving yarn in Cranberry to make a beanie for him. I added two strips of the Bark yarn closer to the center of the hat.


My only debate… How manly is a fringe? Ha!

**For only $5.99, you can get a lot of yarn in a ball of the Bernat Roving yarn, however, it’s not very durable in my opinion as it pulls apart easily; 2) It also tends to tangle similar to that of the cord to a land line phone.

It does seemed to have worked in my favor during this hat making though, saving it for a possible yarn for future hat projects but still NOT another scarf.

sc – single crochet

ea – each

dc – double crochet (American, not British)


Measures to fit the average man’s head – 23″
*But can easily be made to any size! Also fits the average woman’s head!!


Pattern:


CH 4. Join to first ch to form a ring. CH 2, 10 DC into the ring. Join to the top of the first DC.
Row 2: CH 2. 2 DC into the first DC, and in each DC around. Join. (20 DC)
Row 3: CH 2. (2 DC into the first DC, DC into next DC.) Around. Join. (30 DC)
Row 4: CH 2. (2 DC into the first DC, DC into next 2 DC.) Around. Join. (40 DC)
Row 5: CH 2. (2 DC into the first DC, DC into the next 3 DC.) Around. Join – change color here if you’d like a strip. (50 DC)
Row 6: (With Bark) CH 2. DC into first DC, and in each DC around. Join – change back to main color. 
Row 7: (With Cranberry) CH 2. DC into first DC, and in each DC around. Join – change back to Bark.
Row 8: (With Bark) CH 2. DC into first DC, and in each DC around. Join – change back to main color.
Row 9 – 12: (With Cranberry) CH 2. DC into first DC, and in each DC around. Join.   


*For a woman’s hat, you can:
     1.) Reduce the number of rows from 12 to 11;
     2.) Make the 12 rows and roll up the end.
