Sweetheart Jar Earrings – Valentine’s Inspired – Easy Jewelry DIY

February 9, 2015

I love the look of objects in a cute, tiny little jar. I decided to work up some for Valentine’s Day.

Materials I Used:

     – 2 Pkg of Glass Bottles with Cork (2 vial per package) – Hobby Lobby
     – 1 Pkg of Clear Heart Shaped Glass Bottles with Cork – Hobby Lobby
     – 6 grams of 11/0 Seed Beads in Crystal Pink – Hobby Lobby
     – 3 grams of 11/0 Seed Beads in White Opaque – Hobby Lobby
     – 9 grams of 11/0 Seed Beads in Opaque Dark Red – Hobby Lobby
     – E6000 Glue
     – Earring Wires: Surgical Steel French Earring Wires – Ali C’s Supply Shop on Etsy; Surgical Steel Ear Wires Ball and Coil – Ali C’s Supply Shop on Etsy
     – Round Nose Jewelry Plier/s (I like to use two – one in each hand)

Optional Materials:
     – Chain (if vial as a pendant is desired)
     – Clasp (if necklace is desired)
     – Toothpick for ease in applying glue

Material Notes:
I discovered Ali C’s Supply Shop just about a year ago. She has lots of jewelry findings, but what originally attracted me was her surgical steel findings. I wanted some findings that I could use in my jewelry for clients with sensitivities. I have since ordered from her multiple times, and have yet to be disappointed. The supplies are great quality, prices are ideal, and the customer service is wonderful!
You could also purchase silver plated earring wires from your local jewelry store, or order findings from a number of online venues. Be careful with the silver plated ones you get from your local jewelry store as the metal is very soft and breaks easily.

Time Spent:
You can have all three pairs of earrings finished in less than 30 minutes.

DIY:
Uncork your bottles, and begin pouring in the seedbeads to your liking.

I figured the hearts should be solid red.
I made one pair in the solid Crystal Pink seedbeads.
And for these, I poured in a little of each color.
I didn’t measure – just eyeballed it.

Apply E6000 to the edges of your cork, and replace it in your vial.

Use your jewelry pliers to open the loop of your earring wires… Make sure you are opening towards you and not outward (left to right)…

…slip on the loop of the vial…

…and re-close the loop of your earring wires – this time you will push it back into place.

Enjoy your new earrings!

How fun! I've seen a few of those little bottles before, but wasn't very inspired by them. Now that I've seen yours I'm certainly interested in picking some up. 😉
