Easy DIY Glitter Heart Stud Earrings

February 8, 2015

I love earrings – I have way too many, but somehow, I never have the right pair for an outfit. I am always making new sets.

The use of buttons is one of the easiest ways to make some quick studs.

Materials I Used:

     – 2 3/4″ Red Glitter Heart Shapes – Hobby Lobby
     – 8mm Surgical Steel Earring Posts – Ali C’s Supply Shop on Etsy
     – E6000 Glue (I suggest the Clear color so you won’t notice it when it dries.)
     – Scrap Paper for Glue

You May Also Need:
     – Opt. Toothpick for Applying Glue
     – Wire Cutters if you have buttons with shanks instead of flatback embellishments
     – Sandpaper or an Emery Board if you have buttons with shanks

Time Spent:
You will have these done up in less than 15 minutes, but you will need to set out to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

Measurements:
     These hearts measure 3/4″ wide.

DIY:

If you are using flatback embellishments like I am, then you do not need to worry about deshanking your buttons.
Otherwise, you may need to use your wire cutters to remove the shank.
*If you do have to deshank, you will also need some sand paper or an emery board to smooth out the surface before gluing.
Squeeze out a nickel size drop of E6000 on some scrap paper.
I like to dip my earring post into the glue,
but you could also use a toothpick to apply.
Stick your earring post onto your piece. Make sure it is centered from left to right, and closer to the top (otherwise it won’t hang right on your ear).
I think these would also look cute tilted, if the post was placed on either the top left or right corners.
Placement is up to you!
Set aside to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

So pretty and an easy craft. A really good idea when you are in a hurry and want something new for your outfit – maybe for a party night with friends.

One of my favorites to use flatback embellishments because they are so much cute options too!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
