Lacy Veronica Child Scarf – Valentine Inspired – Free Crochet Pattern

February 7, 2015

I love the lacy look of the V-Stitch. This scarf has been coming for some time, just took a little inspiration by this variegated yarn I found on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I got it a few months ago, and it was the last one – too bad because I LOVE IT!

This scarf was designed with my niece, Kayliss, in mind, but I love it so much I may end up keeping it and making her one in purple. Shh! Don’t tell on me.

*This is Day 6 of my 14 Day Valentines Craft Challenge. Make sure to tune back in every day for the next 8 days to receive your inspiration! Don’t forget to subscribe, or follow me on Bloglovin’!
**My 14 Days of Valentine’s Inspired Crafts Linky Party is now live. Please come link up your projects, recipes, stories, decor ideas, etc!

Materials:
     – Light Weight Worsted Weight Yarn – I used 1 Skein of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton Yarn in the Camelot Colorway
     – H8/5mm Crochet Hook
     – Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends – I like to use a #18, or #20.

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Red Heart’s Shimmer Yarn, Caron’s Simply Soft Party Yarn, Lion Brand’s Wool Ease or any other lighter worsted weight yarn.

Time Spent:
I worked up this scarf with fringe in about an hour and a half.

Measurements:
4″ wide by 40″ without fringe; 48″ in length with fringe.
I chose 4″ wide so that this scarf would be a nice warm weather scarf. Here in the Sunshine State, we don’t see too much cooler weather.

Gauge:
With I Love This Cotton Yarn and a H8/5mm Hook – 4″ x 4″
Chain 18, DC in the 4th chain from the hook and in each stitch across. (16)
R2 – 8: Chain 2, turn. DC in the 2nd stitch and in each stitch across.
     Fasten Off.

Abbreviations:
DC – Double Crochet
v-st – V-Stitch

Pattern Notes:

V-Stitch = DC, Chain 1, DC in the same stitch

Pattern:
Chain 22, V-St in the 5th chain from the hook, skip 2 chains, (v-st in the next chain, skip 2 chains) to last two chains, skip 1 chain, DC in the last stitch.

R2: Chain 2, turn. V-St in the center of each v-st to the end. DC in the 2nd chain of the beginning chain 3, which was created when you worked your first v-st into the 5th chain.

R3 – 81: Chain 2, turn. V-St in the center of each v-st to the end. DC in the top of the turning chain.

Fasten Off. Weave in Ends.

FRINGE:
     I cut 36 10″ strands – 3 strands per tassel, 6 tassels per end.

Here, I attached the tassels to the same chain where the V is coming out from.
On the opposite end, where the chain one space is on top,
I attached the tassel to the center of the v – in that chain one space.
Hold the strands together and pinch in the center –
in this case, I am using 3 strands.
With the wrong piece of the work facing you, insert your hook.
Use it to pull the center of the strands through.
Pull the loop big enough to stick your thumb and index fingers through,
so you can pull the tail pieces through.
This is the back/wrong side of your scarf.
Notice how the knot of your tassel is split.
Here is your fringe!
With wild ends.
Cut your tail ends evenly.

Thanks! I usually don't add fringes but I thought this one deserved one, and I actually love it.

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
