Yarn Fanatic Party #37 – String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn Sponsored Giveaway

May 18, 2015

Welcome to the 37th Yarn Fanatic Link Party, and my 20th as co-host, alongside Rachel from The Philosopher’s Wife.

Recently I answered a call from Family Bugs requesting Pattern Reviews of her patterns in exchange for the Free Pattern. I received the pattern for this Dress Up Doll, and the Bubble Dress. Yesterday I finished editing the photos for this post, and got it up. The Dress Review will be up on Wednesday.
Make sure to check out my Dress Up Doll Crochet Pattern Review!
It’s a great gift idea for a little girl – birthday, Christmas, just because. Hehe.
AND! There are so many dress options, many for just $1!

I have been kind of quiet this week. Some of you follow EyeLoveKnots on Facebook, and may have heard that I the contract for the parking company I work for will be ending soon and myself and co-workers will all be out of a job effective June 1st. You can understand how this has bummed me out, and left me uninspired and unmotivated. BUT! Perhaps, this is the kick in the butt I needed to get deeper into my crafting and business.

I will be traveling to a semi-local flea market in a few weeks, and if all goes well – I will be setting up a booth to sell my items. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Either on holding a booth, or things you might buy at a flea market or may have had a lot of luck with when you had a booth somewhere?

Most Clicked:

Hekla Tablecloth/Mandala from Lunamon Design. This mandala is GORGEOUS! I LOVE the colors!! Though there isn’t a pattern attached, this is a great inspiration for us all. And I love that Monica took time to mention Veteran’s Day, honoring those in Norway who fought. As much as I don’t like to think about the sad things going on in the world, it’s great to pause and think of those who fought and still are.

Puerperium Cardigan from Sam the Knitter. This is such an adorable little top! I am in love with the green color. I have grown quite fond of it recently, and may now need to make myself a top in it. AND – have you seen the cute little penguin buttons lined down the side?! It really adds interest to the top, and shows there’s no limit as to when and what you can and can’t use certain themed things on. So cute!

EyeLoveKnots Yarn Favorites:

Embellished Onesie from Over the Apple Tree. I have been looking at this doily pattern from Red Heart. It’s on my ever growing list, but I wouldn’t have thought to use it in this manner. What a great idea! This would be such a sweet gift idea at a baby shower.

Crochet Blanket from Solines Verden/Solin World. I love the sweet combination of pink, white and green. I love the combination for Spring or a little girl. Pair that with my love for granny squares and you get one of my EyeLoveKnots Yarn Favorites. Love the blanket Soline!

Stitch Sampler Blanket from My Little Shop of Treasures. I have been seeing a lot of sampler blankets around lately – two of the bigger ones being the Moogly CAL and the Sophie’s CAL. I really like this one because it is differently stitched lines to create your standard size blanket, rather than squares put together as your “standard” sampler blanket. Too cool!

DIY African Flower Pillow Squared from A Day in My Life. I think the Crocheted African Flower is such a beautiful piece! This pillow with be a nice addition to any part of the house. I will have to add this to the list – my couch could definitely use some new cushions with a splash of color. Can’t wait to see it when it’s done Crystal!

Dancing Dragonflies Scarf from Crochet is the Way. What a beautiful, lacy piece! I am thinking with a worsted weight cotton yarn (like Lion Brand’s Cotton Ease, or Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton), this would make a cute accessory for this Summer. I think made in Orange, I could even pass it off as a spider web type thing. I am excited to try this scarf!

Yearning for Seaside from Atelier Marie-Lucienne. I have been in a beachy/nautical mood lately, searching lots of that theme for home decor pieces. This post is full of great ideas for some additions including this adorable starfish, as well as a link to a wavy pattern for blanket and matching pillow and similar stuffed creatures like fish, octopus and more. What a neat post!

Tulip from My World of Crochet. Looking for a tulip flower that won’t die? I have been lately, since it’s my mom’s favorite flower. This thread made tulip is so precious. I am definitely adding it to my list. Frame it and we’ve got my mom’s next Mother’s Day gift. Never too early to plan ahead, hehe.

Stitchwort Slippers from Ginx Craft. I have not heard of the Stitchwort Flower, but there is such a pretty collection of them on these slippers. I love it on top of the textured look of the chunky yarn used. It kind of reminds me of the crinkly appearance of Lion Brand’s Homespun Yarn. Beautiful pair of slippers!

My Philosopher Favorite:

I really love this Swirl Hat Knit with Never Enough Thyme from The Philosopher’s Wife. The photos are great, and the yarn color is so rich. Pair that with the texture and I am in love.

Left to Right, Top to Bottom:
Long Island Worsted in Cyan, Caper Sock in Dark & Stormy, Caper Sock in Melon, Bluestocking in Peacock, Long Island Worsted in Oban, Marshall Island Sport in Twilight, Tinker Island Fingering in Kiwi, Long Island Worsted in Kiwi.
**Keep in mind dye lots are unique – note on the last two above. Both are named “Kiwi” but there is a clear distance. If ordering, make sure to get enough from the yarn dye lot to ensure the least variation.

This Week’s Giveaway is sponsored by STRING THEORY Hand Dyed Yarn, Inc. This is actually going to be a month long giveaway with multiple chances to win – TWO WEEKS LEFT TO ENTER!!

There are a few things on the Rafflecopter that can be completed daily, like leaving a blog post comment (2 opportunities daily), commenting on a link that’s already been shared by another (1 entry daily), linking up a project (1 entry daily).

One lucky winner will receive a $60 Gift Certificate to the String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn Shop. I know everyone could use a little yarn to add to their stash. We never have enough, isn’t that right?

If you haven’t had the chance to visit the String Theory shop and gallery, head over! The shop tabs are located on the left-hand side of the site. Each is very unique, and has it’s own little story found on the top of each page.
I think my favorite is the Caper Sock – “a luxurious blend 80% merino, 10% cashmere, and 10% nylon, springy with great stitch definition.” Doesn’t that sound amazing?! I would love to try some of this yarn to make a lacy Summer scarf, or perhaps a late Spring/early Fall shawl – what about you?

Thank you for adding my scarf to your favorites! I love your ideas about the color and yarn! Cotton would have been great, but I have trouble finding any in my small town – I'm often stuck with acrylic from Walmart 🙁

Regarding the flea market ideas: Have a variety – Display a few large, more costly items to catch the eye and draw in customers, but have plenty of smaller, less expensive items for impulse buys!

For example, your baby blankets and scarves are beautiful and bright, so display some up higher to be seen from farther away. Lower on a table or rack, display some of those pretty earrings you're always making. And display items for kids down at their level, so the parents have to buy it when they start begging, lol 🙂

Acrylic is a great option too! I am fortunate to live in a bigger city with the extra resources and I am very thankful.
Great ideas for the flea market display! Thank you Jenny – you are awesome!!

I LOVE them all….but if forced to select one, would probably be the Long Island Worsted in Cyan…love the dark and stormy, and also the grey worsted. Using more sport weight and lighter yarns than I used to ….but that would be my fav right now. (could be I'd pick a different one on a different day! LOL!
Thanks for the opportunity. When (if) I'm ever able to get out from under these medical bills, I'd be really interested in trying some of these beautiful yarns!

Dear Alexandra, thank you for mentioning my sea-dwellers amongst your favourites. Meanwhile I've managed creating them a home (http://marie-lucienne.blogspot.com/2015/05/deep-green-sea.html). I hope you've found lots of beachy things to soothe your yearning for the sea… Happy Sunday, Marjan
