Double Knotted Crochet’s Doily Necklace – Crochet Pattern Hack

March 31, 2020

Free step-by-step instruction for making your own crocheted doily necklace by Double Knotted Crochet.

It’s me, Shawna of Double Knotted Crochet, to share another crochet necklace pattern.

With the weather finally warming up, I’m transitioning into lighter crochet projects that don’t weigh me down in lots of yarn in the heat! One thing I love to crochet during the warmer weather is doilies. While at first glance, doilies seem intimidating, they are actually very easy once you get used to the different tension for the thread.

For this project, I actually used the rest of the small skein of perle cotton thread from my last necklace, the Triple Strand Necklace.

Materials:

  • About half a skein of perle cotton thread, size 5 (I use DMC threads)
  • 2mm crochet hook
  • Sewing needle for sewing in ends
  • A jewelry multi-tool or jewelry making toolkit
  • 22 inches of 1.5mm cable chain link
  • 10mm lobster clasp
  • 6 – 4 mm jump rings

Time Spent:

This necklace works up incredibly quickly. I may have spent an hour in total from start to finish.

Measurements:

Finished item is 14 inches long, from closure to tip of middle doily.

Gauge:

Not important for this pattern.

Pattern Notes:

When opening and closing jump rings, or eye pins, do so towards you, not side to side. Close in the same manner.

The doily patterns are not my own. I have linked both pattern tutorials from YouTube below. While one video is titled as coasters, when made with perle cotton and a 2mm hook, it comes out to be much smaller.

  • Large doily tutorial by Bella CoCo – Coasters for Beginners
  • Mini doily tutorial by TooTooAmy – Easy Mini Crochet Doily

Crocheted Doilies:

Make two of the large doily, and one of the mini doily.

Weave in the ends using a sewing needle, then starch and press them using your iron. This will give them a little more structure and prevent them from curling up.

Necklace DIY:

Top Left: Place jump rings on top upper sides of mini doily, and connect to middle of ‘petals’ of larger doilies.

Top Right: Cut two 11 inch pieces of the cable chain link, and connect the larger doilies to the cable chain link using jump rings between two ‘petals’.

Bottom Left: Attach jump rings to open ends of the cable chain link and add lobster clasp and attaching ring.

This type of necklace is so versatile, you could add more or less doilies as you see fit!
