Haylee Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern

This is a free crochet pattern for how to crochet the Haylee Scarf – an easy scarf pattern worked in a simple half double crochet stitch pattern. Four sizes included.

Welcome back to year 6 of our Festive Christmas Event!

In this event, we team up with a bunch of talented blogging friends to bring you a plethora of creative ways to celebrate your holiday season.

Today the theme is handmade gifts, and I just LOVE gifting handmade scarves and hats! This scarf is worked in simple half double crochet stitches, and has four sizes included so you can make one for everybody in the family!

Materials:

  • 137 (260, 388, 567) Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Lion Brand Wool Ease in Natural Heather)
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Yarn Alternatives:

Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice or Heartland, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, Red Heart’s Soft, Bernat’s Super Value and Premier Yarns Everyday Soft.

If the finished size isn’t essential to you, you can even switch our the worsted weight yarn for bulky/chunky weight to make an even cozier scarf.

Time Spent:

For the adult small size, I had my scarf ready in about 4.5 hours.

Measurements:

  • Toddler: 4.25″ Wide by 30.16″ in Length
  • Child: 5.5″ Wide by 44.5″ in Length
  • Adult Small: 6″ Wide by 60.13″ in Length
  • Adult Large: 7″ Wide by 70″ in Length

Gauge:

16 HDC x 11 Rows = 4” x 3.75”

Abbreviations (US Terms):

  • HDC – Half Double Crochet

Pattern:

Chain 16 (21, 23, 29). HDC into the 3rd chain, and each chain across. [15 (20, 22, 28) HDC]

R2 – 87 (130, 178, 208): Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch here or throughout), and turn. HDC into the 1st HDC, and each across. 

Border: Chain 1, turn. SC into each stitch across, (SC, chain 2, SC) into the corner, evenly SC (that’s 3 stitches per 2 rows) down the side of the scarf, (SC, chain 2, SC) into the next corner, SC across the opposite side of the foundation chain, (SC, chain 2, SC) into the next corner, evenly SC (that’s 3 stitches per 2 rows) up the side of the scarf, SC into the same stitch as the 1st, chain 1, then slip stitch join to the 1st SC.

Fasten off, and weave in ends.
