Ribbed Boy’s Blues Baby Hat and Diaper Cover – Crochet by Jennifer – Review

March 30, 2015

I wanted to get this post done yesterday (Saturday), but I had a case of writer’s block. Today, things are much smoother. Sometimes, it just takes fresh eyes.

I have finished my Ribbed Boy’s Blues Baby Hat and Diaper Cover Sets. This set was inspired by our title image, the Denims colorway of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton Yarn, and is inclusive of four colorways.

Materials I Used:
     – 1 skein each of I Love This Cotton Yarn in Denims, Pale Denim, Dark Denim and Dove
     – J10/6mm Crochet Hook (as recommended)
     – #18 Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
     – 22m Buttons – 3 White Buttons (Hobby Lobby), 1 Black Button (Hobby Lobby), 2 Brown Buttons (JoAnns) stacked on each other
     – Pumpkin Hat Pattern (Paid Pattern by CrochetByJennifer)
     – Ribbed Diaper Cover Pattern (Paid Pattern by CrochetByJennifer)

Material Notes:
The white and black buttons I used were from the Sewology collection at Hobby Lobby. These are my favorite buttons to use because they come in a variety of colors and sizes and are nice and sturdy. The brown buttons were some of out my stash at home. They are meant for hoop art projects and not really for closures as they are flat and flimsy. You can find out more on my button reviews in the Plarn Handbag post.

Time Spent:
I was able to work up the hat and the diaper cover in about the same time – an hour and fourty five minutes each.

Measurements:
I worked up these sets in the 3-6 month size, but multiple sizes available in patterns.

Pattern Notes:
The first time I used this pattern, was to work up the Pumpkin Hat and Diaper Cover I made back in October of last year. It is such a great pattern set though, I have used it many times! Two thumbs up, and highly recommended.

Only thing I varied on this set was the Pale Denim diaper cover – I tried using two buttons instead of the one in the center and don’t recommend it alone. I would suggest using three buttons – one in the center and one on each side – so the center flaps don’t flap around.

Definitely, gotta try your pattern. I love knitting for the ribbing but hate making knitted hats because of the top of the hat puckers. Pinning this for later 😉
Thanks for sharing on Worthwhile Wednesdays!

I am a huge fan of the knit look so the ribbing used on this set is perfect! Jennifer does a great job with her patterns. They are right on, and so creative. Looking forward to seeing your version of this set 🙂
