3 Inch Bi-Colored Solid Granny Square the EyeLoveKnots Way – Photo Tutorial

October 16, 2016

Oops! Thought this was scheduled to be released this past Friday. Guess I forgot to reschedule after I edited…

I am working a project to be shared over at The Stitchin Mommy, and have shared this here as part of that project. This is a fun little square that can be used in many ways from embellishing, to pixel projects, to jewelry, to larger things like scarves and blankets, to name a few. If you would like to see projects done using these little squares, drop me a line below.

The reason why I chose to work my Bi-Colored Solid Granny in this manner, as opposed to others you may have seen, is because I hate fastening off, restarting and weaving in a bunch of ends. I came up with this way of working it to avoid that as much as possible. You will still have 6 ends to weave in.

Materials:
– Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Dark Green and Ivory
– J10/6mm Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Material Alternatives:
Some alternatives to I Love This Yarn include Red Heart’s With Love, JoAnn’s Big Twist, but with this tutorial, you can use any weight yarn and matching hook.

Time Spent:
Each square took me about 6 minutes to work up.

Measurements:
3″ Square

Gauge:
14 DC by 8 Rows = 4″
Gauge for this project isn’t essential, as long as your squares are consistent in size. Keep in mind, smaller or larger squares will produce smaller or larger projects.

Abbreviations:
DC – Double Crochet

Pattern Notes:
I hold my strands a little different and yarn over in some parts to avoid the other colored strand from being visible from the right side without having to drop it, as you will need to pick it back up later. You can see how it looks from behind in the above image.
*You may opt to work an invisible join at the end of Round 2 – I have a photo tutorial in my Chunky Baby Beanies post; or you may opt to work a slip stitch join. If you will be using the squares as they are to embellish projects or as an applique, I would suggest a clean invisible join. I knew I’d be joining mine together so I worked a slip stitch join.
Below you will find a Photo Tutorial, followed by just Instructions just in case it’s easier to read it first. You can click on any image to view it larger.
