Sinful Polka Dotted Nails – Easy Nail Tutorial

August 1, 2018

I joked to my mom that I was going to call this my “5th Times the Charm” design because it took me 5 times to get some nails I was happy with!

First off, I painted them the purple shown with the intention to polka dot my ring fingers in the coral color, and I did, but they got messed up because I did not wait long enough for them to dry, so I took them off… Then I painted them the coral color shown, and striped them… Then they were a teal color not even shown here… Then they were just clear (base coat) for a couple days, and today, I finally decided that I would not add a solid color, but just polka dot them. Phew!

I think the polka dots are super fun! This is such a quick and easy design, and can be used in soooooo many ways! Paint your nails a solid color, with polka dots to match any feeling, season or holiday, polka dot all fingers or just one or even just half!

Supplies I Used:

  • Sinful Colors Professional Base Coat (Walgreens)
  • Sinful Colors Sinful Shine with Gel Tech in the Alfresco [Blue], Pragmatic [Purple] and Mardi Gras [Coral] colorways
  • Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Top Coat (Walgreens)
  • Dotting Tool – I have a Sally Hansen brand one that I got from CVS years ago
  • Scrap Paper/Junk Mail – I like the kind that has a sleek surface best

Supply Notes:

I like the Gel Tech polish because it lasts for a good week and a half to two weeks, but any polish will do.

If you don’t have a dotting tool, you can use a toothpick, or ball side of a sewing pin.

Time Spent:

Less than 15 Minutes

Tutorial:

First, I applied a base coat to protect my nails.

Then, I started with the purple.

Unscrew the brush. Do not brush any of the polish off, just drop onto scrap paper.

Grab the dotting tool, and dip into the polish.

I placed my dots randomly, and worked 2 – 4 dots.

I repeated the process with the blue – adding 2 – 4 randomly.

I repeated the process one more time with the coral color, and then top coated my nails to protect my design.

I love to use nail polish but I always take just one color (orange, pink,…). However, this is so funny that I might try it out! Thank’s for the inspiration πŸ™‚

Sometimes I have a hard time picking just one color. I do, however, love polka dots on my nails. Usually, I will do one color as my base, and another one for the polka dots. So many options.
