Welcome to the February Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I am sharing a fun, easy and quick card tutorial. Plenty of time to work one (or 10) of these up before St. Patty’s Day next month!
A few days ago, I shared a crochet pattern review for the sweet little four leaf clover you see on my card. I have had this clover sitting around for a couple months now, as it was originally part of a custom order that didn’t end up going through. I planned on sharing the crochet pattern review of this one (and two others) around this time anyway, and with the Pinterest Challenge upon me, I thought why not use it someway?
My first thoughts were a card or a pair of earrings. I decided to search card ideas first, and came across this St. Patrick’s Day Card from Split Coast Stampers. Boom! Simply, and sweet with a big four leaf clover as the star.
The clover you see on the bottom was the original one I worked, and the one I used on my card, but before I knew that it was the perfect size, I worked up two others in a yarn close in weight to the thread to see which I liked best. The small one is worked in sewing thread, and the large in lightweight #3 yarn.
This clover was designed by Jessie of Jessie at Home, and while I won’t be sending her this card, I did name it after her.
Materials I Used:
- A1 Kraft Paper Card Base from the Park Lane Paperie Pack
- 3/8″ St. Patrick’s Day Ribbon – Mine is from JoAnn’s, and has the stock number 1641-5390, but I couldn’t find it online
- Green Ultra Fine Point Sharpie
- Hot Glue Gun and Sticks
- Four Leaf Clover Applique – I crocheted mine
- Scissors
Material Notes:
The Four Leaf Clover is worked from the Four Leaf Clover, Free Pattern Pattern by Jessie at Home. I have a crochet pattern review here! It measures 1.75″ wide by 2″ tall.
Alternatively, you can cut a four leaf clover out of foam, felt, or scrapbook paper, or find something similar in an appropriate size for your card.
I used a Sharpie, but the way it bleeds, I might recommend Crayola markers instead – like I used on my New Year’s Resolutions sign, OR use a stamp (I didn’t want to buy one).
Time Spent:
The card itself took maybe 5 minutes to complete. Since I did crochet the clover myself so my total time is about 20 minutes.
Measurements:
Finished card is 4 7/8″ wide by 3.5″ tall
DIY:
Cut the ribbon to the width of your card – mine is 4 7/8″ wide. I cut along the natural ridges in my ribbon.
Play with the ribbon position until it’s exactly where you want. I placed my clover on top to help me with my placement, and I settled here.
In my past card making experiences, I found that I really love how quick and easy hot glue is to use, not to mention very secure! I used my hot glue gun to glue down the ends of the ribbon. I also put a little dab in the center.
Time to add the four leaf clover! Hot glue that baby on too. I added glue to the center of it, the center of each of the petals, and to the stem to make sure nothing would curl.
Lastly, I printed “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” underneath my ribbon, as centered as I could to that particular area.
And it’s done! Quick, easy, and fun!

Super cute, Alexandra! I have been wanting to re-learn how to crochet after seeing so many great tutorials like this. That card is precious. Also, I’m impressed with how pretty your handwriting is…I thought it was stamped at first!

I learned from Emi of Hectanooga1 on YouTube. She is awesome, and really made it easy to understand. I have been working on my hand lettering, so thank you for that comment!

I love all of your clovers, but really like the mini one. Those might make cute earrings π for inside your card.
Alexandra says
That is an excellent idea! I need to get some starch or fabric stiffener.
Kelli says
That totally takes card giving to the next level. How special would that be to receive this. I also imagine your clover on a knitted hat.
Alexandra says
It would be a cute applique on a hate! Maybe for next year .

Thanks, Marci! I love the look of kraft paper.
Lynne says
I love homemade cards and this St. Patrick’s Day card is just perfect! So cute and festive!
Lydia from Lydia's Flexitarian Kitchen says
I love this idea. It’s not too difficult to make a little something to put with a card or a gift and it shows the recipient you care enough to hand make an item.
Alexandra says
Absolutely! I love handmaking gifts and tailoring them to my recipient. I apologize for the delay in responding, but I’ve been buried in Spam Comments – had to work through it all.
Emily says
These are really cute and I love how you used the shamrocks on the card, I’m sure I have some green yarn around here somewhere!
Alexandra says
Any kind. So many possibilities. My wheels are still turning (even though I am trying to shift to Easter).
Julie says
I love your crocheted four leaf clover and the card works perfectly with it.
Loes says
Magnificent!!! It fits exactly with the ribbon.
Alexandra says
Thank you! I should have taken the clover with me to JoAnn’s when I went to buy the ribbon because it was a little tough to match by memory, but it turned out perfect.
Habiba says
That tiny sewing thread clover surpasses my level of patience I can muster by miles, lol, but the regular one I could do. Love your idea, Alexandra, and will pin it for future reference.
Alexandra says
Thanks, Habiba! I don’t have much patience for using the smaller weight yarns, but in small projects like this one where it works up pretty quickly, I can push through, and it really is so fun to change things up. I apologize for the delay in responding, but I’ve been buried in Spam Comments – had to work through it all.
