Double Knotted Crochet’s Triple Strand Necklace – Free Crochet Pattern

March 18, 2020

Free Crochet Pattern for how-to crochet the Triple Strand Necklace, designed by Double Knotted Crochet for EyeLoveKnots.

Shawna here, of Double Knotted Crochet, back with another free crochet pattern. I am so excited to share with you my very own necklace pattern!

I started making these necklaces a little over a year ago when preparing for my very first craft fair. The craft fair was in April and after Easter, so I wanted something crocheted, but not the typical hats, blankets and scarves because of the southern heat. The necklace is a perfect pairing with a t-shirt or plain swing dress, it adds just the right touch of something interesting and different.

While I favor doing an ombre color pallet in my necklaces, I have also found success in selling these in team colors for that extra touch to a fan’s game day outfit.

If you would like a PDF version of this post, you may get one through either my EyeLoveKnots Etsy Shop, Ravelry or LoveCrafts Shop for a small fee. This fee is to compensate for the views lost when you no longer need to return to the blog to for the information, as you will have your own copy. Plus! It helps fund supplies for new projects to share with you!

Materials:

  • 3 different colors of perle cotton thread, size 5 (I use DMC threads)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • #20 Tapestry needle for sewing in ends
  • A jewelry multi-tool or jewelry making toolkit
  • 10 – 12 inches of 1.5mm cable chain link
  • 10mm lobster clasp
  • 8 – 4 mm jump rings
  • 6 eye pins
  • 2 6mm x 7mm end caps

Material Notes:

The end caps can be used with the eye pins or you can purchase the glue in end caps and secure with a bond such as E6000.

Time Spent:

It takes me about an hour and a half to make one necklace from start to finish. For faster results, I recommend making all tubes first and then doing all assembly at once.

Measurements:

Finished item is 18 – 19 inches long, fitting right below the shirt collar.

Gauge:

Not important for this pattern.

Abbreviations:

  • SC – single crochet
  • SC2Tog – single crochet 2 together

Pattern Notes:

Each tube is crocheted separately and then attached to cable chain. The tubes are worked in spirals and there is no row count or need for stitch markers as it does not affect final appearance. I have included measurements that have worked best for myself and my customers, but increasing length of tubes and shortening chain length would also work well.

For the most accurate measurements and polished finished item, please do not stretch crocheted tubes while measuring.

When opening and closing jump rings, or eye pins, do so towards you, not side to side. Close in the same manner.

If you need help Forming a Basic Loop at the end of your eye pins, there is a photo tutorial HERE on the EyeLoveKnots blog.

Crochet Pattern:

In a magic ring, SC 4, do not join – work in spirals (4 stitches)

R2: Place 2 SC in first SC, SC in next stitch, 2 SC in next stitch, SC in last stitch (6 stitches)

R3: SC once in each stitch until tubes measure – Color A: 6 inches, Color B: 6.5 inches, Color C: 7 inches (6 stitches)

Next: Once tubes are at correct length, SC2Tog in next stitch, SC, SC2Tog, SC. Slip stitch once into next stitch and fasten off. (4 stitches)

Weave ends around very end of tubes, knot and trim excess.

Necklace Assembly (Shown Above):

(2) Insert eye pin in end of tubes, close eye and (3) insert into end cap. Cut eye pin length down and create a loop to close off.

(4) Attach tubes to cable chain with jump rings by placing longest tube on first chain of necklace chain on each side, work medium length tube into the 5th chain up from the first chain and shortest tube should be placed on 5th chain up from the medium length chain (see image above).

Attach lobster clasp, and additional jump ring to opposite ends of chain to create closure.

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
