Bunny Plush Lovey – Crochet Pattern Review

June 28, 2022

My neighbor is having a baby! I absolutely love to make crocheted baby items for my expecting friends. However, when those babies are due in the warm summer months like this one, my usual gifts of blankets, hats and booties aren’t exactly what I want to give.

Stuffed toys tend to be my alternative. When I saw this bunny lovey, I thought this was the perfect choice. It is not quite a stuffed toy but I like that it is a little different. Plus, the yarn is so soft, I can easily imagine a little baby snuggling up with this sweet bunny!

This Crochet Bunny Hat would be a great matching piece to this lovey. Check out my crochet pattern review.

Materials I Used to Make the Plush Bunny Lovey:

  • Bernat Baby Velvet Yarn (Worsted Weight) in Potpourri [Pink] & Vapor Gray
  • Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (Worsted Weight) in Black
  • Poly-fil
  • G6/4mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn needle
  • 5-inch sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Plush Bunny Lovey, Paid Crochet Pattern from GennadiShop via Etsy

Material Notes:

The pattern asks for a size E4/3.5mm crochet hook, but I felt like I couldn’t get a good grip on the yarn with such a small hook, so I ended up opting for a G6/4.25mm instead. It was still small enough to keep tight stitches but large enough that I felt like I could grip the yarn.

Additionally, the brand of yarn suggested is made in Turkey and not easy for me to obtain. However, there is a website that I like (yarnsub.com) that will give you recommendations of alternative yarns that are a good substitute for the original. The yarn I used was one that was recommended as a “good match” at a “88%” match. Having used the yarn that was suggested, I would say it was a great fit!

Lastly, I used yarn to stitch on the face instead of embroidery thread. I had an easier time manipulating the yarn where I wanted it than I did the thread.

Time Spent:

The bunny is made in several different pieces that need to all be stitched together. It took me 4 hours in total to complete.

Measurements:

The bunny worked up true to size with the pattern at approximately 15 inches in length.

Gauge:

There is no gauge for this pattern. However, my personal gauge was 18 stitches and 12 rows over 4 inches.

Pattern Notes:

This pattern was easy to follow and there are plenty of pictures for you to reference. It is easily adjustable for any needs you would want to make, such as size or even shape.

If you’re looking for a great baby gift, give this bunny lovey a try! I bet you’ll love it!

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
