Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I decided to make something sweet this year since I made the Poisoned Heart. My daughter bought her best friend their very first BFF necklaces (awww!) during a trip to the mall this weekend. So I thought this cute little purse would be an adorable way for her to package it to give it to her friend on Valentine’s Day!

Worked in worsted weight yarn, this little heart pouch is sized just right for a small handful of treats, jewelry or other goodies. It worked up really quickly so I will need to make some for the kids’ teachers as well…perfect size to pop in a gift card and some candy!

What materials do I need to crochet this Granny Heart Heart?

  • Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Red Heart Super Saver in Light Raspberry and Claret
  • Size G6/4mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Granny Heart Superstar, Paid Crochet Pattern from IslandStyleCrochet via Etsy

Material Notes:

This pattern uses worsted weight yarn, and it doesn’t take a whole lot so it’s a great scrap buster project! I love that I didn’t need specialty yarn and I could use up small balls of yarn that I had in my stash. Plus, you could use different weights of yarns from your stash to make different sized ones!

How long does it take to crochet this granny square heart?

The entire project took me 1 hour. That includes stitching the two sides together and weaving in ends. It is a really fast and easy project that looks fancy!

Measurements:

My project measures 4 ¾ inches across at the widest points and 4 inches tall from the middle point to bottom point. The pattern says the hearts will measure 4 inches by 4 inches so I’m sure it’s just a difference in tension that causes the small difference in sizes.

Gauge:

There is no gauge for this pattern. But my personal gauge was 24 double crochet stitches across by 8 rows for a 4 inch square.

Pattern Notes:

The Granny Heart Superstar is the ideal quick pattern for when you need to make several items in a short period of time. In addition to the pattern’s ease and speed, the designer also includes photos with the instructions and there are actually 2 different options for the trim around the hearts! I chose the first one but the other is much fancier.

There is also the option for turning the heart into a coaster and the instructions for that are also included! You get a lot of pattern for just a couple dollars. Totally worth it!

Will you be making some for Valentine’s Day? If so, what will you put in them?

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
