Basic Washcloth – Crochet Pattern Review – AmandasImagination

April 20, 2015

Last week, I was browsing through a pattern testers team on Etsy and came across a post requesting testers for this Basic Washcloth pattern from AmandasImagination. I jumped on it and was thankful to have been able to test out the pattern – I just love being a part.

These washcloths came out really nice! At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the measurements for it, but I really like it now! They are a nice, rectangular shape. Great size for folding and stacking or hanging. A little bigger than I am used to but would make a great washcloth!
I also really like the half double crochet being used as opposed to a single or double crochet. I feel like the half double crochet allows for the washcloth to breath and adds flexibility – better than a single crochet – but also keeps it together better – as opposed to the floppyness from a double crochet.

Overall, this is a great, basic pattern! And perfect pattern for a beginner!

I am definitely going to be working this up in a few different colors – especially with the large color option for worsted weight cotton yarn.

Materials I Used:
     – Less than 1 skein each of Lily Sugar n Cream in Yellow and Hot Orange
     – I9/5.5mm Hook (as recommended)
     – #18 Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
     – Crochet Washcloth Pattern by AmandasImagination (Paid Pattern)

Material Notes:
Bernat’s Handicrafter Yarn and Lion Brand’s Kitchen Cotton are great yarn alternatives! I do not recommend Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton for washcloths.
I suggest using an #18 or #20 size tapestry needle for weaving because they have a duller point and large enough that it is easy to grab. Using a smaller needle (such as a #22) will result in your needle really hurting your fingers from the grabbing of it during the weaving process and it will also get stuck in your work as it has a pointer end.
The above link for the pattern is a US version. There is also a UK terms version available – Crochet Washcloth Pattern in UK Terms.

Time Spent:
I was able to work up each washcloth in just under 45 minutes. 41.25 mins

Measurements:
     9.5″ W x 8″ with border

Pattern Notes:
Single crochet border adds 0.25″ to each side.
Fasten off at the end of the row, and work border over tail ends. If using one color, this isn’t as big a deal, but if switching colors in the washcloth, it will save you a lot of time!

If you find that the piece is shorter on the side of the foundation change – kind of seen on the bottom of the piece above – no worries! Just give the ends a tug. Sometimes while working over the tail end, it can create bunching in your piece, but easily resolved by the tugging.
Enjoy your new washcloths!

If you do make up some of your own, I would love if you shared them at our Yarn Fanatic Linky Party! It goes live every Monday afternoon and last through Sunday 🙂

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
