This is my 8th soap cozy/gift bag design. They are so much fun to make. I enjoy using them as gift/favor bags, but they are also perfect for a handmade bar of soap.
I worked in the back loops to create the fun ribbed pattern paired with a color block of cream and a summery, bright green.

Materials:
- 75 Yards of Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn – I used Lily Sugar n Cream in the Ecru and Hot Green colorways
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Lily Sugar n Cream: Bernat’s Handicrafter, Red Heart’s Smoothie, Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Rico Creative Cotton Aran
Other Recommended Yarns (with I9/5.5mm Hook): Red Heart’s Super Saver, Caron’s One Pound, Bernat’s Super Value
Jewelry pliers are an excellent tool to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle.
Time Spent:
Just under 45 minutes
Measurements:
4.5″ Wide Across Middle by 6″ Tall
Gauge:
Not essential unless working to fit a specific item. In the round, 15 SC in the BLO = 4″
Abbreviations:
- SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
- BLO – Back Loop Only
- HDC – Half Double Crochet
- DC – Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
Pattern Notes:
The majority of the body of this bag is worked in a continuous manner meaning no slip stitch joining at the end of each round – this creates the continuous ribbed pattern. Joining creates a seam, which disturbs this stitch pattern.
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
Pattern:
In Cream, chain 15. Work 2 HDC into the 2nd chain, and the next 12, work 3 HDC into the last chain, HDC into the next 12 chains of the opposite side of the foundation, HDC into the same stitch as the 1st. (30 HDC)
R2: Chain 1. In BLO, loosely slip stitch into the 1st HDC, SC in the next 29 HDC (30 stitches)
R3 – 9: In BLO, SC around (30 SC)
R10 – 12: In Green and BLO, SC around (30 SC)
R13: In BLO, SC around, slip stitch join to the 1st SC. (30 SC)
R14: In both loops (as normal), chain 3 (counts as a DC + chain 1). Skip the next SC, (DC into the next SC, chain 1, skip the next SC) 14x. Join to the 2nd chain of the beginning chain 3. (15 DC, 15 chain spaces)
R15: Chain 1. SC into the 1st stitch, and each chain space and DC around. (30 SC)
R16: Chain 1. In BLO, SC into the 1st SC, and each SC around. Join & Fasten Off.
Tie:
Chain 2. Work 4 SC into the 1st chain, slip stitch to the 1st SC. Chain 62. Work 3 SC into the 2nd to last chain. Slip stitch join, & fasten off.
Weave in ends, then weave tie in and out of Round 14 .
Perfect bag for treats and candy, or...
…for a jewelry box containing my new Round Dip-Dyed Earrings!

Love it but where is your pin button? I want to save this one!!
Alexandra says
I don’t have pin buttons within my blog. Personally, I added Pinterest to my taskbar on my computer, and this allows me to pin any photo on any site I visit.
