Thanksgiving is literally days away so it was pretty obvious that I needed to crochet a turkey! It worked up quickly and flawlessly. I am so happy with how it turned out; he is just the cutest! I mean, look at this face!
Materials I Used:
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Coffee, Cherry Red, Gold, and Bright Yellow
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- 9mm Safety Eyes
- Polyfil
- Scissors
- Stitch Marker
- Yarn Needle
- Crochet Turkey Pattern, Paid Crochet Pattern from HooksAndBooksByAlice via Etsy
Material Notes:
The pattern calls for a size G6 crochet hook but I wanted my turkey to be just a bit bigger so I went with a size H8/5mm hook. Otherwise I used all the same materials as the designer.
Yarn Alternatives: WeCrochet Brava, Caron One Pound, Bernat Super Value
Time Spent:
This adorable little turkey took me approximately 4.5 hours to complete. That time includes the time it took me to crochet each piece, fill with polyfil and stitch everything together.
Measurements:
The turkey is about 6 inches in height.
Gauge:
There was no gauge given for this pattern. But the designer does say that for the feathers, the length can be adjusted by adding or removing rows until the piece reaches your liking.
Pattern Notes:
This pattern is excellently written and includes photos. The stitches are simple and everything is worked in the round. I did make the adjustment of stitching on all the pieces to the turkey before I stuffed it with polyfil rather than the other way around. I feel like I have more control over the placement of the parts when I can reach in from the other side to assist with positioning. Plus, I used the leftover yarn strands to help stuff the turkey.
I have wanted to make a crochet turkey for a couple years now and to have finally done it feels great because this bird is absolutely delightful and I love him! He sits nicely on his little feet too, which is great for displaying. Whip up this perfect poultry just in time for the holiday; I bet you’ll love him too!
Happy Thanksgiving!
