It’s time again for the Inspire My Creativity Challenge! This is a monthly craft blog hop, and each month, there is a different theme. This month’s theme is BACK TO SCHOOL. If you have a post that fits that theme, feel free to link up too!
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to share for this month’s challenge – a binder cover, a pencil case, a cozy to put over my current pencil cup, something apple related… I mean the list could really go on and on, but nothing really grabbed my attention, then I came across some fun colorful paper clips at my local Dollar Tree, and this earring idea came to mind.
If you don’t crochet, you can still make these by replacing the crocheted strip with a small piece of soft 7 mesh plastic canvas, or some jewelry chain.
If you would like a PDF version of this post, you may get one through either my EyeLoveKnots Etsy Shop, Ravelry or LoveCrochet Shop for a small fee. This fee is to compensate for the views lost when you no longer need to return to the blog to for the information, as you will have your own copy. Plus! It helps fund supplies for new projects to share with you!

Materials:
- Small Amount of #10 Crochet Thread – I used Hobby Lobby’s Artiste Cotton Crochet Thread in Cloud (I think – I lost the label, and online it looks a little dark)
- 2.35mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
- 2 Earring Wires
- 8 – 18 28mm Paper Clips – I got mine in a variety pack from the Dollar Tree
- Jewelry Pliers
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternative: Aunt Lydia’s Crochet #10 Thread.
Time Spent:
The smaller pair works up in about 15 minutes, and the longer pair in a little under 30 minutes.
Measurements:
Strip before Stringing: 1″ (2″)
Finished Length: 2″ (3.25″)
Abbreviations:
- SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
Pattern Notes:
The single crochets are worked into the back bumps of the chains to create a smoother edge that makes it easier to see the loops for stringing the paper clips through.
Typically, one works single crochets into the second chain from the hook, but in this case, there is an extra skipped chain for putting the earring hook through.
Instructions for smaller size are given with larger size in parenthesis.
Crocheted Strip:
Chain 9 (19). SC into the back bump of the 3rd chain, and across.
Fasten off, and weave in ends.
Earring Tutorial:
Begin at the loop at the very bottom of the strip. Using the open leg of the paper clip, simply slide the paper clip over the crochet loop (through the spot where you would normally work your next rows stitches). Skip the stitch directly above this, and string another paper clip into the next.
Continue up, then repeat for the other side. Once strung, the earring will naturally twist a little on it’s own.
Please feel free to make and sell your own Thread & Paper Clip Earrings using this pattern, but please DO NOT claim this pattern as your own nor should you sell my pattern, and DO NOT re-publish my photos as your own. DO NOT copy and paste my pattern anywhere, link to it instead.

<3 my only recommendation now that I have worn them is maybe thread the paper clip around one more time to the other end so they don't fall out. Other than that, fun gift idea :)
