Four Free Tried & True Baby Crochet Patterns – Double Knotted Crochet

June 2, 2020

Four free crochet patterns for baby gifts curated by Double Knotted Crochet.

Hello again! It’s Shawna of Double Knotted Crochet.

Summer is finally here and thank goodness it is! We love summer in our house as almost all family birthdays happen between June and September.

I’ve noticed it’s a busy time for many crocheters who enjoy making baby items, as it seems summer months tend to have more births. So I’ve rounded up my personal favorite free crochet patterns for babies to help give you some ideas. The thing I love about each of these items is that they are all gender neutral with the right tweaks. Easy, fast, and fun patterns definitely get my crochet mojo flowing!

Bunny Ear Teethers from Hooked By Robin:

The first item I love to make is actually the newest in my personal lineup for my Etsy store and markets. I came across this video on Youtube and fell in love with the simplicity and quickness of the pattern.

I order the beechwood rings from Etsy, and use 100% cotton yarn for the ear part so that mom and dad can safely wash and dry to keep baby’s items clean.

Caron Baby’s First Cluster Hat from Yarnspirations:

Yarnspirations is so well known for their amazing yarns, but did you know they also have tons of free crochet patterns on their website?

This hat is the first baby hat I crocheted a few years ago and I love the simple design so much, that I have stayed with this pattern for all baby hats. I make some with flowers in a contrasting color like pictured, or attach some bear ears for a bit of whimsy. Bonus, the bear ears look great on both boy and girl babies.

For the bear ears:

Using the same yarn and hook you used for the hat, crochet 8 Half Double Crochet into a Magic Ring. Without joining, but instead working in a spiral, crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the first 6 stitches. Fasten off with a longer tail. Weave in first tail and sew ears on to top of hat three rows down from the crown using the longer tail.

Crochet Polka Dot Blanket from Daisy Farm Crafts:

Let me just say – if you love to make blankets, Daisy Farm Crafts has the most beautiful patterns for free on their blog! I follow them on Instagram and I’m always in awe of the beauty of their work.

I made this blanket last year for a friend having a baby and loved every single minute. This pattern works up quickly, is an easy repeat, and can be personalized in so many ways. I went with a ribbed border, but a ruffle, straight edge, or crab stitch border would all look so lovely with this pattern. I will definitely be making more!

Crochet Amish Puzzle Ball from Look At What I Made:

When I first saw these crochet puzzle balls floating around on a crochet group on Facebook, I knew I had to make one. One became three, which became ten, which has turned into countless crochet puzzle balls.

These neat toys come apart into three different rings and fit back together to form a ball. They are always a topic of conversation at craft fairs as shoppers come try to solve one I have sitting out for demonstration.

I tweaked the pattern just a bit and use a weight 3 yarn and a 3mm hook for the balls I make.

And that’s it! Four very easy, quick and free patterns for crocheted baby items.

Check me out on Instagram @doubleknottedcrochet for all kinds of awesome crochet makes and inspiration!

The Amish Puzzle Balls are such a hit at craft fairs, they draw so many people over to try my sample out and most buyers have actually bought as a sensory tool for a special needs child which I think is an amazing idea.
The Bunny Ear Teethers are so quick and so easy, you’ll love them!

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
