Winter usually means snow and at my house, snow equals snowman. So it was a natural choice for December to make one that will last all year long! I chose this little guy because I just thought the top hat was too cute! So many patterns have snowpeople wearing beanies topped with a pouf. While they are adorable, this top hat really caught my eye so I had to make it!
Disclaimer: I wanted my snowman a little bit larger than the pattern creates so I did use a larger hook when making him.
Materials I Used:
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in White, Cherry Red, and Black
- Red Heart With Love Yarn in Tiger Lily
- I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
- 9mm safety eyes
- Poly-fil
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
- Winter Wonderland Snowman, Paid Crochet Pattern from 3GenerationCrochet via Etsy
Material Notes:
As I said above, I chose a larger hook to make my snowman a little bigger but the pattern calls for a size D hook. A snowflake button was listed on the pattern’s list of needed materials but I left it off mine. No yarn weight or eye size is given so I used what I had on hand and it worked up beautifully.
Time Spent:
This has been one of my fastest projects yet! It took me just under 2 hours to complete, including the time it took to place the eyes, fill with stuffing and attach all the pieces.
Measurements:
My frigid fellow stands at a little over 5 inches in height, from the top of his hat to the bottom of his body.
Gauge:
There was no gauge indicated for this pattern, and really, it isn’t essential.
Pattern Notes:
The pattern is very easy, using basic stitches and techniques. It is written well. There are no photos of the process but it really isn’t necessary for the simplicity of the pattern. There was no indication of how far apart to space the eyes or at what row to attach the hat. Obviously, that can be easily determined to your own liking but it was something I noticed. The pattern says to start stuffing the body after you add the eyes however, I didn’t start stuffing until I was starting to decrease the lower part of the body. I also added the nose prior to stuffing and closing the body.
I really enjoyed this pattern. It is simple and fast but satisfying. It makes a great little gift or decoration for your home. You could even make a whole snow family in an evening! Let me know how many you end up making if you try this pattern out!

Just too adorable! Thanks for sharing him. I don’t know how to crochet (yet) but I think he would be one I would want to create. #HomeMattersParty
