This is a free crochet pattern for how to crochet the Bobblish Scarf – an easy scarf pattern worked in a fun bobble stitch pattern. Four sizes included.
Find the free crochet pattern instructions below, or purchase a printer-friendly, ad-free PDF on Ravelry by clicking here.
The bobble stitch creates such a fun texture and cozy fabric. The scarf looks great in a solid color, or with the bobbles worked in a second color for a little pop, like I did in my Vertical Garden Washcloth.
There are two row types for this scarf: a row of single crochet, and a bobble row. Though it’s not a two row repeat because of the bobble staggering, it is still a great project for when you’re binge watching your favorite show. The stitch pattern is also beginner friendly comprised of simple single crochets and a variation of double crochets for the bobbles. With four sizes included, you can make one for each member of the family!
This scarf is also part of one my eBooks: Let’s Crochet Some Scarves Vol 1. Available for purchase on Etsy HERE or Ravelry HERE.

Materials:
- 166 (295, 453, 659) Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Red Heart’s Super Saver in Buff Fleck
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
Material Notes:
If you have concerns about using Red Heart Super Saver and similar because of the roughness and stiffness of the fabric, I have a couple tips!
- If the yarn is too rough for your hands to crochet with, remove the skein wrapper, place the skein into a mesh lingerie bag (I bought mine at JoAnn’s), then machine wash it by itself on the gentle cycle in cold water with a mild detergent. Once it’s finished, toss it into the dryer on low heat – you may need to run it through 2 – 3 times to get the center dry.
- To add softness and better drape to the finished piece, crochet in it’s entirety and weave in the ends, then wash and dry in the same manner (without the lingerie bag) or simply dry once with a dryer sheet.
Time Spent:
The bobbles require more attention. This adult small scarf took about 8.25 hours.
Measurements:
- Toddler: 4.13″ Wide by 30.5″ in Length
- Child: 5.38″ Wide by 45.5″ in Length
- Adult Small: 6″ Wide by 60.25″ in Length
- Adult Large: 7″ Wide by 70″ in Length
Gauge:
11 HDC = 3″ Wide; 9 Rows = 3 1/8″
Abbreviations (US Terms):
- SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
- To Create a Bobble: all worked into the same stitch: (yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 4x, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on the hook.
Pattern Note:
To make your bobbles in a different color, change yarn colors in the last yarn over of the single crochet before the bobble, and change back in the last yarn over of the bobble. Measure as you go because the bulk of crocheting over the other color may require less rows for the desired length. To achieve the same tension throughout, you will need to crochet over the non-working strand of yarn the entire time (minus the border). On the sides, carry Color B up, and when you work the border, it will cover it up. The bobbles are worked from the wrong side. When working these rows, hold the yarn carried as close to you as possible (as opposed to held to the back) so it’s not seen from the right side.

I love the texture of this scarf. In the close-up picture, I was able to see the subtle color variations in the neutral, beige yarn. It really gives the piece interest and depth. Thanks for linking up at Talent-Sharing Tuesdays.
