Shamrocks. Gold. Leprechauns. Rainbows. The familiar icons of St. Patrick’s Day (which will be here before we know it). When I was plotting out my crochet project for the holiday, I opted for a rainbow. I feel like it’s the most overlooked décor option for St. Patrick’s Day and it is a great transitional piece for going into spring!
I thought this rainbow wall hanging was a cute little piece of décor that wasn’t too overpowering with all the colors and yet flows seamlessly with the seasons. It would make a great addition to your St. Patrick’s Day decor, or you could use it all year long in a kid’s room or play room!

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO CROCHET A RAINBOW WALL HANGING?
- Red Heart Super Saver in Cherry Red, Bright Yellow, Denim, and Dark Orchid
- Lion Brand Yarn Pound of Love in Pumpkin Spice
- Big Twist Value in Olive Green
- H8/5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Rainbow Wall Hanging, paid crochet pattern by Sweet Littles Btq. via Etsy
MATERIAL NOTES:
Medium 4 weight yarn is recommended for this project. I used Red Heart Super Saver, Lion Brand Pound of Love, and Big Twist Value yarn. Funny note: all the different brands of yarn that I used in my project are also mentioned in the pattern as suitable options. I didn’t plan it that way; just happened to be what I had on hand! Haha!
While all the yarn brands I used were acrylic, cotton yarn could also be a good option for this wall hanging. Cotton would be especially good if you want to comb out the tassels at the bottom to make it look more like a macrame project.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A RAINBOW WALL HANGING?
I finished this rainbow wall hanging in 35 minutes. It is so simple and works up like a dream!
WHAT ARE THE MEASUREMENTS OF A RAINBOW WALL HANGING?
My rainbow is 6.25 inches across from one edge of red to the other far edge of red. It measures 3.25 inches from the top of the rainbow to the bottom of the rainbow, excluding the loop for hanging and the tassels. My tassels are 4 inches in length.

WHAT IS THE GAUGE FOR A RAINBOW WALL HANGING?
The gauge is 3 double crochet stitches per inch and 2 double crochet rows per inch. Any hook and/or yarn size can be used for this pattern, noting that it will change the size of your wall hanging.
PATTERN NOTES:
All in all, this pattern is fantastic. It is very easy, works up so fast and looks absolutely adorable! It makes a great touch of color for your St. Patrick’s Day decor!
I will say the pattern seems to end semi-abruptly, after saying how to make the tassels and how to attach them. There is no recommendation on length given nor what to do with the long tails from each color that we were instructed to leave. I just added the tails into the tassels, but I did find it odd that there was no specific instruction given on them since they were explicitly mentioned in the pattern.
Besides that, it is a great pattern, and I recommend it for you to try out too! If you do give this pattern a try, be sure to share some photos of your finished piece with us!

I love this idea! A rainbow wall hanging is such a fresh and creative take on St. Patrick’s Day decor, and I agree—it’s a great piece to transition into spring. The fact that it works up so quickly makes it even more tempting to try! I also appreciate the material notes, especially the suggestion about using cotton yarn for a macrame-like effect.
