Around the holidays, I had a custom order in my EyeLoveKnots Etsy shop for a men’s black and gray striped scarf.
Today, I am sharing the free crochet pattern with you!
With millions of color combinations, this scarf can be made over many times. Made of acrylic yarn, it’s great for the cooler weather times. It also makes a great gift for him!
Materials:
– 336 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used less than half a skein each of Hobby Lobby‘s I Love This Yarn in Black and Graphite
– Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends – I like to use a #18, or #20.
– I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
Material Notes:
Some Yarn Alternatives: Deborah Norville’s Everyday Soft, or Red Heart’s With Love.
Gauge:
With I Love This Yarn and an I9/5.5mm Hook = 4″ x 4″
Chain 16, DC in the 4th stitch, and in each stitch across. (14 DC)
R2 – R8: Chain 2, turn. DC in the 2nd stitch, and each stitch across.
Fasten Off.
Measurements:
6.5″ wide by 70″ in length
Abbreviation/s:
DC – Double Crochet
Pattern Notes:
Work color changes in the last yarn over of the final double crochet.
If you need to help, I have a photo tutorial: How to Change Yarn Colors in Crochet the EyeLoveKnots Way.
Alternatively, you could fasten off at the end of each color block and attach your new color.
You may choose to add a single crochet border around your scarf you have completed it. This adds a nice, clean edge to the scarf, and hides and uneven edges. Mine came out perfect, so I opted not to include a border.
Pattern: Beginning with Black, Chain 25. DC in 3rd stitch from the hook, and in each stitch across. (23 DC)
R2 – 10: Chain 2, turn. DC in 2nd stitch and in each stitch across.
R11 – 20: With Gray, chain 2 and turn. DC in 2nd stitch and in each stitch across.
R21 – 30: With Black, chain 2 and turn. DC in 2nd stitch and in each stitch across.

It's so hard to crochet for guys sometimes…But this seems like a pattern that just about any guy would love. What a great classic look!

Difficult to shop for guys in general, I think. Except when it comes to a basic hat and scarf. That seems to be my go-to lately. Thanks for stopping by Jenny!

How many yards would you say you used?
knots1prime says
It's been awhile, but based on a similar scarf I made, I'm gonna say about 336 yards total (less than a skein of each color).
Lisa Soliz says
This looks awesome and actually perfect timing. I needed a scarf pattern for a man. Thank you!
Question: for every color change, you start with the ch2 then the dc, correct?
Thank you again for this pattern! I'm going to check out your other projects. βΊ

Oops, you're right! Didn't put any chains in the pattern. Thanks for catching that! Yes, each row begins with a chain 2, and then the first double crochet is into the second stitch. Would love to see finished photos π
Lisa Soliz says
Thanks for clarifying! π
I'm hoping to start on the scarf this weekend. I'll be using colors forest green and grey. Will post a pic when I'm done.
Thanks!

I'm done! I really loved it. I hated having to give it away LOL The next one I make is mine! Thank you for sharing your awesome pattern.
oh … and I would post a pic, if I knew how lol

This is the first scarf I have successfully completed. My goal is to make a bunch and donate them to people in need. Do I need written permission to do this?
Alexandra says
Yay! So glad you enjoyed this scarf pattern π Congrats on the milestone. You don’t need permission at all. The patterns themselves are protected, but the physical items you are free to do with them as you choose – even if a designer were to write a disclaimer saying you couldn’t sell your finished items. The designer would be out of line. Let me know if you pick a charity/organization. I always love finding new ones, and donating too!

Iβm mega late to the party! Anywho, I was a bit confused and wanted to ask β when stitching into the second stitch after the ch 2, is it the second chain or the second stitch after the chain?
Alexandra says
The beginning chain 2 counts as the first stitch of the row, and then the first double crochet is worked into the 2nd stitch from the previous row (so next stitch after the beginning chain 2).
