Suzette’s Toilet Runner – Free Crochet Pattern

December 7, 2019

This is a free crochet pattern for how-to crochet my Suzette’s Toilet Runner.

I want to start by apologizing – I did not consider the lack of natural lighting in my bathroom, so these pictures aren’t very pretty, plus, well… it’s a bathroom. Haha. But I’ve been talking about the runner I was making, and I wanted to share it with you! This year for Christmas, I wanted to focus on the bathroom – last year I focused on my Christmas Porch 2018.

While at Ross, I found a set that included a shower curtain, curtain rings (which we really needed!), and two rugs all for just $19.95. I thought it was a really great deal PLUS it was in our Christmas colors, so I snagged it quick.

After I set the bathroom up, it looked a little bare to me. I had thought about buying a toilet seat cover, and some new towels to match the rugs, but I went to a few stores, and only found a light gray, which would have worked, but really wasn’t I envisioned, so I decided against it [this year].

I haven’t decorated the top of my toilet before, but I know some people do, and so I thought a toilet runner in gray to match the curtain would look really nice. My first thought was to make three Plastic Canvas Gift Box Ornaments in cranberry and green to line the runner with, but while in Hobby Lobby getting the gray yarn for the runner, I came across the adorable tree display you see (in my colors), and it was 50% off!!

The bathroom could definitely use some more detail, but that will have to wait until next year. What else should I add?

Materials:

  • 120 Yards of Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn – I used Crafters Secret Cotton Yarn (from Hobby Lobby) in the Gray colorway
  • I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers

Material Notes:

Yarn Alternatives: Lily Sugar n Cream, Bernat Handicrafter, Red Heart’s Smoothie, Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Rico Creative Cotton Aran.

Jewelry pliers are an excellent tool to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle.

Time Spent:

Just under an hour and a half.

Measurements:

6.63″ Wide by 18.5″ Long

Abbreviations:

  • SC – Single Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet

Pattern Notes:

Typically, the slanted shell pattern is worked into the 2nd chain of an even numbered chain. I, however, feel that working into this stitch causes the project to come out uneven and bunched up. You will find my pattern is worked into the 3rd chain of an odd numbered chain.

I will say, my Robin’s Egg Slanted Shell Washcloths are also 13 clusters wide, and have a border added, but worked in Lily Sugar n Cream and an H8/5mm hook, they measure 8″ with the border. Usually, I find that I have to use an I9/5.5mm hook with Crafters Secret to match Lily Sugar n Cream, but that didn’t seem to be the case here… Not sure if my tension has changed, or what-have-you, but it isn’t that essential for this project.

Pattern:

Chain 27. SC & DC in the 3rd chain from the hook, (skip next stitch, SC & DC in the next stitch) across. (13 clusters)

R2 – R51 (or Until You Run Out of Yarn): Chain 1, turn. SC & DC in the 2nd stitch, (skip next stitch, SC & DC in the next stitch) across.

Fasten Off, and Weave in Ends.

I never thought about decking out the bathrooms for the holidays, but I think it’s a cute idea. Love the shower curtain too.
Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.

Thanks! Yeah, I wanted to pick a different part of the house to focus on this year, and the right bathroom set just jumped out at me so… ya know!

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
