Floral Hoop Earrings – Free Crochet Pattern

February 18, 2020

This is a free crochet pattern for how-to crochet my Floral Hoop Earrings.

My nail design is Color Street nail strips called Don’t Flake on Me. Shop Alexandra Lane HERE!

Welcome to the February Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen!

This month’s theme is Spring Crafts!

My inspiration this month comes from THESE OPENWORK HOOP EARRINGS from CreativeAccessorise on Etsy. You can find more earrings inspiration and DIYS in my Beauty: Earrings board.

My Plan

So I wanted to create a motif using my basic floral applique from my Sunflower Shawl out of thread with the intention of stringing it up to the hoop, but when I finished the second round of half double crochets, I realized it was going to be too large to do this, so I switched gears, and reworked the center with double crochets so it would be large enough to stretch to fit the hoop size so I could work the petals around it.

If you would like a PDF version of this post, you may get one through either my EyeLoveKnots Etsy Shop, Ravelry or LoveCrafts Shop for a small fee. This fee is to compensate for the views lost when you no longer need to return to the blog to for the information, as you will have your own copy. Plus! It helps fund supplies for new projects to share with you!

Materials:

  • Small Amount of #10 Crochet Thread – I used Artiste brand in Orchid and Gold Dust
  • 2.35mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • 2 40mm Hoops with Loop – I used #12353827 I found at JoAnns.
  • Pair of Earring Wires – I like to use 20mm French Hooks
  • Jewelry Plier/s – I like to use one in each hand.

Yarn Alternative:

Aunt Lydia’s #10 Cotton Crochet Thread. (This is a touch thicker, so I recommend making the center in half double crochets instead of the given double crochets).

Time Spent:

Each earring takes about 7 minutes to crochet, and assembly is a breeze so, about 15-20 minutes for the pair.

Measurements:

2.25″ Wide from One Petal Tip Across to the Other

Abbreviations:

  • DC – Double Crochet
  • SC – Single Crochet

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain does not count towards final stitch count.

In the first two rounds, your piece will most likely cup. Normally, we don’t want this. In this case, it is perfectly okay because the finished piece is going to stretch to fit the hoop, so it won’t affect anything.

Color Changing Tip to Create a Seamless Color Change:

After you’ve slip stitched at the end of Round 2 (as normal), pull in new color. It should now look like you have two chains.

Pull the original color tightly…

… and it will disappear!

Earring Wire Loop: Always open towards you, not side to side.

Pattern – Make 2:

In Yellow, chain 5. Join to the first chain to form a ring. Chain 2. Work 12 DC into the ring. Join. (12 DC)

R2: Chain 2. Work 1 DC into the first DC, 2 DC into each of the next 11 DC’s, and 1 DC into the first stitch just to the right of the beginning chain 2. Join, switch to Purple, and fasten off Yellow. (24 DC)

Lay your piece down, then put hoop over (so working yarn is behind the piece).

You will work Round 3 over the hoop, stretching fabric as needed.

If you are using the same hoops as me, the top center will have a hanger. When you get to the last petal, slide the back leg (seen from the wrong side of the piece) of the first single crochet over the left side of the hanger, and it will allow the final petal to sit more comfortably.

R3: In Purple, chain 1. SC into the first DC, skip the next DC, (3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC) into the next DC, skip the next DC, [SC into the next DC, skip the next DC, (3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC) into the next DC, skip the next DC] 5 times. Join, and fasten off. (6 Petals, 6 SC)

Weave in ends, and attach earring wires.

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
