The inspiration for this pattern came from my C2C Enamored Heart Washcloth.

I use crochet washcloths are part of my decor rather than for washing and drying, but I know that many do use them as they were intended to be used, and as a washcloth C2C in double crochet becomes saggy because of the spaces in the boxes, and by the spaces, I mean the slit from the beginning chain that all the stitches are worked into so this year I decided to reworked my C2C Enamored Heart Washcloth pattern in half double crochet, which makes for a much nicer washcloth.
In this remake, I decided to use my original pattern in double crochet to work up some afghan squares that is great for stashbusting, and can be used for a variety of projects including throw pillows, blankets, shawls, wall hangings and so much more!

Materials:
- 30 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Red Heart Super Saver; You’ll need 10 Yards of the Heart color, and 20 Yards of the Background/Border color
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook – I love my ergonomic Koi Fish one from SiennasBowtique on Etsy
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
Material Notes:
I like Red Heart’s Super Saver for my home projects because it’s affordable, durable, and machine washes well. I also really like Lion Brand Wool Ease, and WeCrochet Swish, which are both wool blends. They’re so soft, cozy and not itchy. For non-wool options, try WeCrochet Brava or Lion Brand Color Theory.
If I was going to make something like a washcloth, doily or table runner, I would use a cotton yarn, like Lily Sugar n Cream or WeCrochet Dishie.
If size isn’t essential to your project you can use any yarn from your stash with respective crochet hook.
Red Heart Super Saver is an inconsistent yarn. While the overall gauge isn’t important, it is important that the gauge for both yarns that you use are the same. I had to use an H8/5mm for my Soft White, and I9/5.5mm for my Buff.

I worked this sample up in Red Heart Super Saver in Shocking Pink and Dove.

I worked up these in Red Heart Super Saver, and plan to turn them into an afghan.

Great Valentines gift idea!
Fabulous, I’m now thinking maybe the next baby blanket I make should be C2C squares with hearts? This would be so pretty in all sorts of colour schemes.
I don’t know why I’m saying this, I don’t have time to make another baby blanket just now! Onto my to do list it goes!
So sweet, a perfect way to try out C2C, note to self! thanks so much for sharing on craft schooling sunday!
I’m expecting a grandson in July 2021, and this is going to be perfect for him! Alternating blue and white. Thank you so much for a wonderful pattern!
That is going to be such a sweet blanket! I would love to see it 🙂
Hi Alexandra, Thank you for sharing your pretty C2C Heart Block with us 🙂 This is perfect for Valentine’s Day and can be used in so many projects. Your afghan square is being featured tomorrow at Wednesday Link Party 384. Here’s the direct link to the feature in case you’d like to share it: https://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/2021/02/c2c-enamored-heart-heart-bunting-and-sweater-mittens.html Wishing you a wonderful week, Rhondda
Thank you so much, Rhondda!
Looking forward to doing the HDC C2C square. HDC is my favorite stitch and I’m sure it will shrink that annoying space problem we all have on the C2C’s. Just purchased the Alphabet C2C pattern. Can’t wait to make a pillow for my daughter. Going to make a great baby gift also:)
It definitely does shrink that space making it almost non-existent. Going to be perfect for gifts! I would love to see photos.
Hello!
I come to visit you from Linky Ladies Party #203 where I also participate.
I like your artwork.
Thanks for sharing.
Greetings from Spain
Thanks so much, Isabel! I will pop over to check out your blog.
Lovely! My favourite is the one with variegated pink yarn and grey foundation! Thank you so much for sharing!
I really like that one too! That was the first one I made, but then I decided to try and tone it down a little bit, and try to make it more farmhouse-y.
Thank you! My first C2C!! It’s a perfect size and so cute for a first project !
I am so happy it worked out perfectly for you! Welcome to the C2C Club, hehe.
I’m practicing my C2C on squares… to give my daughter a bunch of dishcloths while I work on my tension and color work. These are adorable.
I love that! The texture is really lovely for washcloths, especially down in half double crochet boxes.
Thank you for sharing this simple C2C “sample”. I want to learn C2C and start with something small but have a design in the pattern. I want to make sure I learn to read a pattern and can make my work turn out right!
So glad you like it! It’s a great project to start with because it has minimal color changes, and such a versatile square.
I’m going to use this pattern to make “bonding squares ” to donate to hospitals for mothers and their preemies. I think that if I use baby yarn, a smaller hook and half double crochets, the size should be just about right. They’re usually 5″ X 5″.
I really love this idea! I have it on my list to make some as well. I can’t quite answer the question of size as I’ve not tried anything similar to that to compare, but I would recommend a gauge swatch prior.
It came out at 5.5″, just what I needed!
