Hey there! It’s Jessica from Nice and Knotty!

It is currently quite cold where I live so I wanted to make something with warm vibes and bright colors. I chose this Crafty Cactus Pillow because it is super cute and I don’t know about you, but when I think cactus, I think sun. This little guy turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for! I love that this pillow is adorable, has texture to it but it is still totally functional! Plus, it can be made in different variations and styles.
I have to admit I was a little intimated by this pattern. It is one I have been eyeing for a while now, but I was concerned about the curvy cactus arms. However, I decided to use this opportunity to push myself to do it and I am so glad I did! This pattern is well-written and there is even a video tutorial to go along with it. How nice is that? You can find the link to the video in the Materials section below.
Materials I Used:
- Maybe Half a Skein of Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green
- Small Amount of Red Heart Super Saver in Light Raspberry for the flower
- G6/4mm crochet hook for the cactus
- I9/5.5mm crochet hook for the flower
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Poly-Fil stuffing

- Popcorn Stitch Flower, Free Crochet Pattern by BHooked Crochet
Material Notes:
The popcorn flower stitch pattern is by another creator (BHooked Crochet), but it was the flower pattern linked by A Crafty Concept Design for the cactus. You could opt to leave the flower off or even do one of another style.
Time Spent:
I spent a total of 6.5 hours on the cactus and the flower. This includes the time it took to stuff the cactus and to make and attach the flower. The entire project worked up fairly fast, which is great because I don’t know about you but as soon as I start something, I am very eager to see it all put together!
Measurements:
The finished product measures approximately 14” tall by 14” wide (from the end of one arm to the other). I imagine size could also be adjusted by adding or removing rows to each piece as well as changing the hook size. It is the perfect little pillow for propping up in the corner of the couch or adding as an accent pillow to pull together a bedroom décor theme.
Gauge:
Gauge was not necessary for this pattern.
Pattern Notes:
Something to be aware of when following the pattern: At the end of row 7 of the body front piece as well as at the end of rows 15-17 for the arm piece, it doesn’t specify to turn and chain 1 like all other rows. But upon watching the YouTube video for clarification, you do turn and chain 1 at the end of all rows in the pattern.
The pillows you make from this pattern are allowed to be sold per the creator but please give her credit for creating such a beautiful pattern in your listings.
Once this was done, my daughter immediately scooped it up and gave it a squeeze. Then I showed it to a friend, who squealed with delight and immediately asked if it was for sale. Needless to say, I’ll be whipping up more of these faux-prickly pillows very soon! I hope you will too!
