I always struggle at this time of year with what to crochet that are not the typical wintry weather accessories or a blanket. Now, there is nothing wrong with those things, but I wanted to do something a little different. Christmastime does mean decorations so that is the route I took.

I came across this adorable snow globe pattern and instantly I knew I had to make it! It is so cute, and it can be used for a variety of things: an ornament, an applique, a decoration on a gift or you can make several to have coasters or string them up as garland.

You could potentially stitch on other “scenes” for your globe instead of a tree but that would depend on your skills. I am not particularly good at stitching on my crochet pieces, so we are all lucky the tree I made even resembles a tree.

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO CROCHET A CHRISTMAS TREE SNOW GLOBE?

  • Red Heart Super Saver in White, Coffee, and Tea Leaf
  • G6/4mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Button
  • Thread
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • 1 Stitch marker
  • Christmas Tree Snow Globe pattern, paid crochet pattern by HCCrochets via Etsy

MATERIAL NOTES:

Worsted weight yarn is recommended for this pattern. You could adjust the hook size to make a larger or smaller snow globe, but I personally would not use a different weight of yarn for such a project.

A button is on the list of materials, but you could stitch a tree topper on instead or even make a teeny, tiny pom pom for more dimension! The button I used was a spare button that came with a shirt and it is half an inch wide.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CROCHET A CHRISTMAS TREE SNOW GLOBE?

It took me only 30 minutes to make the snow globe, including stitching on the tree and button. It works up incredibly fast and is so, so easy!

WHAT ARE THE MEASUREMENTS OF A CHRISTMAS TREE SNOW GLOBE?

My snow globe is 3.75 inches tall and 3.25 inches wide. It came out a little smaller than the designer’s snow globe, but I attribute that to my notoriously tight tension. The pattern stated that the snow globe should be approximately 3.5 inches wide by 4.25 inches tall.

WHAT IS THE GAUGE FOR A CHRISTMAS TREE SNOW GLOBE?

There was no gauge given for this pattern, but my crochet circle was 3.25 inches wide at the end of the globe portion of the pattern.

PATTERN NOTES:

This pattern works up so quickly, is undeniably cute and very festive! I wish I would have found the pattern earlier so I could have had more made for Christmas! I am going to use them as accents on gift bags for next year and then people can use them in whatever they would like to in their own home’s decor.
