I have seen some really cute kitten patterns on social media for about a year, but I only recently got around to making one. Even though I had purchased the Mini Kitty pattern by Crafty Kat back when I got the Mini Manatee pattern, I didn’t try it. I finally got around to trying this pattern out right before one of my big markets two weeks ago. After making twenty-five of them and selling every single one of them over my last two markets, I am kicking myself for not trying this pattern sooner!
The Mini Kitty pattern by Crafty Kat is a super easy, super quick, no-sew pattern! I love how you can easily make tons of different kitties just by changing up the color of your yarn. While you can add color changes to this pattern, they still look fantastic all in one color, which makes them super easy for market prep! While such a simple pattern, they have so much personality. I’m already working on making a ton more for my upcoming craft shows!

What Materials Do I Need to Crochet a Mini Kitty?
- Super Bulky Weight 6 Yarn – I used a variety of colors and brands including Bernat Blanket Yarn, Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn, Yarn Bee Snugs and Kisses, and Big Twist Cuddle
- J 10.5/6.5 mm Crochet Hook – I love using my Clover Amour ergonomic hook!
- Stuffing
- Yarn Needle – I recommend using a steel yarn needle.
- 10 mm Black Felt Eyes
- Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn in Pink and White
- Mini Kitty, paid crochet pattern by CraftyKatShopUS via Etsy

Material Notes:
The designer used blanket style yarn when making this pattern, but the pattern can work for weights 4, 5, or 6 yarn. I used a variety of different styles of super bulky weight 6 yarn for mine, including Bernat Blanket yarn, Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn, Yarn Bee Snugs and Kisses, and Big Twist Cuddle. While I haven’t tried out lighter weights of yarn, I think the pattern would look great with those as well!
Depending on what yarn you use, you will need to adjust your hook size. The pattern provides suggestions for for hook size for some common yarn brands so you can easily figure out which one to use for your project.
This pattern requires a small amount of stuffing. I like to stuff my mini kitties super full, so I used extra stuffing, but you can choose to stuff them as full as you would like to keep their shape. The only sewing involved in this pattern is sewing the opening closed at the end when finishing off and adding the embellishments. I find it easiest to do this type of sewing with a steel yarn needle that doesn’t bend when I am pushing it through the thicker yarn.
The pattern calls for 10-16 mm safety eyes or felt eyes. I use felt eyes for all my makes to make them safer for kids, but you can choose what you want for your preference. If you use felt eyes, you will want to make sure you have a hot glue gun or fabric glue to attach them.
How Long Does It Take to Crochet a Mini Kitty?
This is a really quick and easy pattern! After making so many of these cuties, I am able to make one in about 30 minutes!

What Size Is a Finished Mini Kitty?
My finished Mini Kitty measures 4.5 inches long, 3.25 inches wide, and 3.25 inches tall. The size varies slightly depending on what brand of yarn you use, but most of them are pretty close to this size.
Gauge:
Gauge is not provided in this pattern and is not critical for making stuffed toys like this. You mainly want to make sure that your hook size is appropriate for your yarn and that your stitches are tight enough together so that your stuffing doesn’t come out through holes between the stitches.
If you want your mini kitty to come out to be the same size as mine, using super bulky weight 6 yarn (Bernat Blanket) and a J10.5/6.5 mm crochet hook, a magic circle with 8 single crochets should measure approximately 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
All About Making the Mini Kitty:
My favorite feature of the Mini Kitty crochet pattern is how quickly it works up! This pattern is made in all one-piece with no color changes or parts to sew on. I really like to crochet while taking walks, which makes it difficult to do color changes or additional pieces, so this is the perfect project for this!
This pattern is really easy to follow, which isn’t always the case with no-sew patterns. Sometimes the no-sew portions of the project can be tricky to figure out, but for this pattern, they are very intuitive. The pattern provides clear directions and pictures for all of the important components of the design.
The Mini Kitty is a relatively beginner-friendly pattern. There are a couple of special stitches used to make the feet and the ears, but they are explained very clearly. If you are comfortable working in the round and are good at following directions, this pattern is definitely for you!
To finish off the Mini Kitty, you just need to sew on a nose and whiskers. I opted to use felt eyes, so I added them at the end, but if you use safety eyes like the pattern suggests, they are added as they are made.
I cannot say enough good things about this pattern. It is so easy and so quick, and was one of my most popular makes at my last two markets! If you need me anytime soon, I will be making more of them!
