Bead & Lace Cocoon Shrug – Crochet Pattern Review – Crochet n Crafts

June 25, 2016

I pattern tested this for my friend Rhelena back around March. I am a big fan of the patterns from Crochet n Crafts, and the large variety of projects and stitch patterns. This is a highly recommended pattern.

It is also a great comfort item to make for someone in need – work it in pink and it’s a wonderful gift to someone fighting breast cancer!

Materials I Used:
     – 710 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used just about a full skein each of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Sage and Ivory
     – L11/8mm Crochet Hook (larger than recommended)
     – Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends – I like a #18 or #20
     – Bead & Lace Cocoon Shrug, Free Crochet Pattern from Crochet n Craft

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Red Heart’s With Love. Red Heart’s Comfort used in original.

Time Spent:
I had my shrug ready in about 7 hours.

Measurements:
I worked the Medium size. Pattern contains sizes XS – XL.

Gauge (Met):
     With L11/8mm Hook: 16 SC by 20 Rnds = 6″ x 7″

Pattern Notes:
This was another great pattern from Rhelena of Crochet n Crafts! Easy to follow, and memorize. The pattern can easily be adjusted to desired fitting, as well as sized down for a child. This particular piece fits to elbows, but I think a shorter version would also be really cute!

Though I didn’t add one, I think it would fit really well with a button in the center so you can close the front.

This shrug is super comfortable, and the perfect accent to any outfit! Make it in cotton for warmer weather, or basic pattern and some lightweight (#3) or chunky (#5) to create the perfect piece for any season.

One thing I did work differently was the bead stitch. Rhelena includes a link to tutorial on this stitch, but I found working a triple crochet was much easier, produced a sturdier bobble and looked exactly the same.

This shrug is very time consuming – taking about 7 hours to complete! If I worked another (which I’d love to), I’d go with a chunky weight yarn or size the sleeves down considerably.

With so many size, yarn type and color options, I would love to see them! Please share your photos on my EyeLoveKnots Facebook page, or our latest Yarn Fanatic Party Link Up!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
