Two Grannies Headband – Free Crochet Pattern

May 6, 2017

Yay! This is the fifth post of the year for the 2017 GrannySpiration Challenge! I am so excited to see what everyone has been working on, especially you! At the end of this post, you will find the information for this month’s giveaway, and link up.

I was feeling very uninspired and unmotivated for my May 2017 GrannySpiration Challenge Project, and didn’t have anything worked up until this headband the day before. I decided I was going to wear my new top out to lunch with my mom, and usually I wear my hair clipped back and parted on the side, but this day, I decided that I needed a matching headband to wear that fit in the space from the parted side, and go clip-less, and so this Two Grannies Headband was created just in time to wear out.

From Your Hosts: Rainbow Blanket (Crochet Inspiration) from Kat Kat Katoen, Simple Granny Coaster (Free Crochet Pattern) from Rhelena, Delicate Earrings from Crochet is the Way, Granny Square Wrap (Crochet Inspiration with Diagram for Edging) from Atelier Marie-Lucienne, Roll Collar Poncho (Free Crochet Pattern in German) from Hakelfieber, Handwarmers (Free Crochet Pattern in Dutch) from Mariam’s Creations, and Granny Square Soap Cozy (Free Crochet Pattern) from EyeLoveKnots (that’s me!).

Please make sure to stop by our other co-host and see what they’ve been working on too. In the image above, you’ll find their projects (and mine) from last month’s challenge.

Marjan from Atelier Marie-Lucienne
Sandra from Hakelfieber Austria (in German)
Sigrid from Kat Kat Katoen
Jenny from Crochet is the Way
Rhelena from Crochet n Crafts
Mariam from Mariam’s Creations: Recycle and Create

Materials I Used:
     – Small Amount of #10 Crochet Thread – I used Hobby Lobby’s Artiste #10 Thread in the Orchid and Black colorways
     – B2mm Crochet Hook
     – #20 Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Aunt Lydia’s #10 Crochet Thread

Time Spent:
I had my headband ready to wear in about half an hour.

Measurements:
1 7/8″ wide by 4″ long (26″ long from tie to tie)

Gauge:
     With B2mm Hook & Artiste #10 Thread: 9 SC = 1″ Wide

Abbreviations:
     – DC – Double Crochet
     – SC – Single Crochet

Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain 2 counts as a stitch, but chain 1 does not.

Chain 2 at the end of the first round of the squares is intentional. I’ve found with a chain 3 at the end of the first round, it makes this corner uneven.

Join to the first stitch, not the beginning chain.

I have a photo tutorial on How to Work a Granny Square. Beginner friendly, as well as a photo tutorial on how to Join-As-You-Go Granny Squares.

Pattern:

1st Granny Square:
Chain 5. Join to form a ring. Chain 2. 2 DC into the ring, chain 3, (3 DC into the ring, chain 3) 2x, 3 DC into the ring, chain 2. Join. (12 DC)

R2: Slip stitch over to the chain space. Chain 2. 2 DC into the chain space, chain 3, 3 DC into the same chain space, chain 1, (3 DC in the next chain space, chain 3, 3 DC into the same chain space, chain 1) 3x. Join. Loosely slip stitch over to the corner. (24 DC)

R3: Slip stitch over to the chain space. Chain 2. 2 DC into the chain space, chain 3, 3 DC into the same chain space, chain 1, 3 DC into the next chain space, chain 1, (3 DC in the next chain space, chain 3, 3 DC into the same chain space, chain 1, 3 DC into the next chain space, chain 1) 3x. Join. (36 DC)

2nd Granny Square – Join-As-You-Go:

Chain 2. 2 DC into the chain space, chain 1, from behind SC into the chain space of the 1st square, chain 1, 3 DC into the first chain space of the current square, from behind SC into the chain space of the 1st square, 3 DC into the next chain space of the current square, from behind SC into the chain space of the 1st square, 3 DC into the next chain space of the current square, chain 1, from behind SC into the chain space of the 1st square, chain 1, 3 DC into the same chain space of the current square, chain 1, 3 DC into the next chain space, chain 1, (3 DC in the next chain space, chain 3, 3 DC into the same chain space, chain 1, 3 DC into the next chain space, chain 1) 2x. Join with Black. (36 DC)

Edging & Ties:
In Black, (chain 110. Slip stitch into the 4th stitch to create a ring. Chain 1. 5 SC into the ring. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join ring. Now working back into the initial chain and the back bump of each chain, work 84 slip stitches, skip the next stitch of the granny square cluster, slip stitch into the next stitch, SC into the next 4 stitches, 5 SC into the chain 3 space, SC into the next 12 stitches, SC into the center join of the squares, SC into the next 12 stitches, 5 SC into the chain 3 space, SC next 4 stitches), slip stitch into the next stitch. Repeat all within the parenthesis one more time. Slip stitch join.

Fasten Off, and Weave in Ends.

Can't wait to see you headband, but I totally understand life is sometimes too busy. It does take a lot of time to make a blog post, that's something one shouldn't underestimate.
Anyhow, thank's again for the Grannyspiration Challenge 🙂
    Have a nice day, Sigrid

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
