How to make my Endless Summer Ring Box – a modern, ring bearer pillow alternative with crocheted flowers.
It’s time again for the Inspire My Creativity Challenge! This is a monthly craft blog hop, and each month, there is a different theme. This month’s theme is WOOD. If you have a post that fits that theme, feel free to link up too!
This month, I am sharing my Endless Summer Ring Box that was created for my wedding last July. I had two sweet ring boys, and looked around for ring pillows, but the little pillows were a little more than I was willing to pay, so I needed an alternative.
I turned to Pinterest, and came across THIS PIN. It was exactly what I wanted! Since I was using my Frilly Flowers crochet pattern (which I shared as my Inspire My Creativity Challenge for March of this year) to make my bouquets, I just added two for the ring boxes.
My sister-in-law, Vee was so kind, and painted the box for me, I crocheted the flower, and she came over super early the morning of my wedding to assemble it for me – what a stressful day (and day before) for me. Team work makes the dream work, right?
Photography by a local Orlando photographer, William Fryson – FryGuy Photography.
Materials I Used:
- 4.5″ in Length by 3″ Wide by 1.75″ Tall Unfinished Wooden Box with Latch – I am having trouble finding this specific size online to link to, but I think I picked it up either at JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby.
- White Paint
- Paint Brush
- Hot Glue and Sticks
- Two Faux Floral Leaves
- Small Amount of Red Heart’s Super Saver Yarn in Pumpkin [Bright Orange]
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Frilly Flowers, Free Crochet Pattern, which measures 3.25″ wide (diameter)
Time Spent:
About 45 minutes per box (plus drying time).
DIY Notes:
If you want to spray paint instead (which would have been my route), use clear tape to take off the front hinge – like I did in my DIY Framed Mesh Earring Holder DIY (with photos), and do so carefully.
My flower is crocheted because all the other flowers in my wedding were crocheted, so I just made one to match. Replace it with one that is appropriate to your event!
The reason why we used the leaves was to file space because though the flower filled the space perfectly for the width, it was just a little short in length.
DIY Tutorial:
Step 1: Two coats of paint on the wooden box – Vee painted over the back hinges, but not the front hinge (since this is the one that would be seen).
Step 2: Crochet the flower using my Frilly Flower Free Crochet Pattern (or use your own flower).
Step 3: Position leaves and flower inside the box, and when happy, hot glue in place.
Step 4: Place rings in. My ring boys did not carry actual rings down the aisle, but if yours will, I recommend adding in a tie.
All done!

Umm . . . those boys are adorable! Such a fun way to keep things traditional, but not, at the same time!

I’m loving seeing little bits and pieces of your wedding. So much creativity!
Good call not actually putting the rings in the boxes – no one needs to know they are not actually in there do they?
Alexandra says
Hehe. I was thinking the kids might say something about carrying an empty box, but they were good sports. I had a lot of fun putting all the things together for the wedding. I have a few more things to share – looking for the extra time, ya know? Thanks for the kind message 🙂
Julie Briones says
I didn’t even notice until you said something that your bouquets were crocheted! You are just amazing!
Alexandra says
Thanks! It was a lot of work to get them all done, but I had a couple friends help out, which I really appreciated! Overall though, I just love how they turned out.
Verna says
Such lovely photos for your special day. What a great idea and a twist from the traditional pillow.
Alexandra says
Yeah! I loved seeing all the pillow alternative ideas on Pinterest. I had no idea before searching. Was perfect seeing my nephews holding these little boxes!
