Forget Me Not Applique – Free Crochet Pattern

May 2, 2020

This is a free crochet pattern for how-to make my new Forget Me Not Applique.

This post contains affiliate links for LoveCrafts and WeCrochet. If you make a purchase by clicking on them, I make a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!

Find the free crochet pattern instructions below, or purchase a printer-friendly, ad-free PDF on Ravelry by clicking here.

This bright blue you see is my favorite color, and I was curious if there were blue flowers (other than Hydrangeas and Roses), so I hopped onto Pinterest, searched for “blue flowers” and up popped a gorgeous little flower called a Forget Me Not.

I went to Google Images, and found my inspiration for this pattern design. This image is from HGTV’s How to Plant and Grow Forget-Me-Not Flowers.

My nails are Color Street Daisy Me Rolling.

Materials:

  • Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Lily Sugar n Cream in the Yellow, White, and my main color (MC) in Rose Pink, and Blueberry, plus Bernat Handicrafter Delux in Purple
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers

Material Notes:

Yarn Alternatives to Lily Sugar n Cream: WeCrochet Dishie, Bernat’s Handicrafter, Red Heart’s Smoothie, Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Rico Creative Cotton Aran

Any yarn weight with respective hook will work for this – I just happened to be going through my cotton stash in the making of these.

Jewelry pliers are an excellent tool to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle.

Time Spent:

Just over 15 minutes per flower.

Measurements:

3.5″ Wide from Tip of One Petal Across to Other

Gauge – Not Essential:

16 HDC by 10 Rows = 4″

Abbreviations:

  • HDC – Half Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
  • SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
  • DC – Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)

Special Stitch:

  • Shell – 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

Join to the first stitch of the round, not the beginning chain.

Pull new color through in the last yarn over of the previous stitch. I do have a basic photo tutorial if needed – How to Change Yarn Colors in Crochet.

I work my increases a little different than most, and that is that the first stitch from the first set of increases is done in the first stitch of the round, which will appear just to left of the beginning chain, then the round will be worked as normal, and the final stitch of the round will be the second stitch of the first set of increases, and it will be worked into the same stitch as the first, and appear just to the right of the beginning chain. You can see a photo tutorial of this in my How to Keep a Straight Seam post.

Though there are only three rounds, and a straight seam isn’t really an issue, this is how I worked my samples, and how I wrote my notes down for the color changes.

Pattern:

In Yellow, chain 5. Slip stitch to the first chain to form a ring. Chain 1. Work 10 HDC into the ring. Join with White, and fasten off Yellow. (10 HDC)

R2: Chain 1. 1 White HDC into the 1st HDC, 2 MC HDC into the next stitch, (1 MC HDC into the next stitch, 1 White HDC into the same stitch, 2 MC HDC into the next stitch) 4x, 1 MC into the 1st HDC switching back to White. Join [with White]. (15 MC HDC, 5 White HDC for 20 total)

R3: Chain 1. 1 White SC into the 1st HDC, skip the next HDC, MC shell into the next HDC, skip the next HDC, (1 White SC into the next HDC, skip the next HDC, MC shell into the next HDC, skip the next HDC) 4x switching back to White after the last DC. Join [with White]. (5 Petals, 5 SC)

Fasten off, and weave in ends.

Please feel free to make and sell your own projects made from my Forget Me Not Applique, but please DO NOT claim this pattern as your own nor should you sell my pattern, and DO NOT re-publish my photos as your own. DO NOT copy and paste my pattern anywhere, link to it instead.

I love your crocheted forget me nots. Your beautiful crocheting always reminds me of my mother. I have to admit that I can crochet, but my mother was so good that we always let her do the crocheting instead of learning the fine art of crocheting to the point that she did. Thank you for sharing.

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
