For this month’s 4th of July series, I wanted to share a throw pillow covered in stars. Originally, I envisioned the pillow in a solid blue, and the stars all in white, but the more I thought about it, I couldn’t decide if I wanted Navy blue or Royal blue, and since I didn’t have Navy on hand, gray popped into my mind. Gray is such a fitting color for so many things – I think it turned out perfect!

- DTR – Double Treble Crochet aka Quadruple Crochet [yarn over three times, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through (5 loops on hook), (yarn over, pull through two loops) 4x]
Tutorial:
First, I worked up a 14″ throw pillow using my Haylee Throw Pillow (Free Crochet Pattern).
Then, I worked up 6 stars using my Star Applique (Free Crochet Pattern), leaving a long tail to sew them on, and laid them out until I was happy with the placement.
How to Sew on the Stars:
Thread yarn tail into tapestry needle.
Sew in…
… and out through the middle of the top of the stitches (middle of what looks like a “V”).
You’ll barely notice the stitches. Once you’re back to the beginning, take the needle down, and weave in on the wrong side.

I like that you chose a gray background, the stars really pop against the gray. Also, gives a little twist to the usual red, white, & blue.
Alexandra says
Thanks, Allyson! I’m glad I tried it too – turned out better than I imagined.
