It’s beanie weather! Frigid temperatures are hitting everywhere this winter and cozy caps are more essential than ever! I chose this textured beauty of a beanie for a Christmas present and it did not disappoint.
I love the bobbles all the way around and the bright hue of yellow in remembrance of the sunshine-filled days of summer. Did I mention it’s really cold here? I also can’t get enough of the adorable pom pom on top!
What materials do I need to crochet a beanie?
- Red Heart Super Saver in Bright Yellow
- White Faux Fur Pom Pom
- I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Isabel Beanie Hat, Paid Crochet Pattern
Material Notes:
Bulky yarn is called for in the pattern but the color of yarn I was using was specifically requested so I used worsted weight size 4 yarn. I considered doing two strands together but I was afraid the bobbles wouldn’t look as nice that way. I used about one third of a skein of the Super Saver yarn.
There was no hook size given for using worsted weight yarn so I opted for a mid-size hook.
If you wanted to do a yarn pom pom instead of a faux fur one, you could easily make the swap.
How long does it take to crochet a beanie?
The entire project took me 3 hours from start to finish. This includes weaving in ends and stitching on the pom pom.
Measurements:
My hat was sized for an adult female. The circumference of the hat is approximately 22 inches and is about 8 inches in height from crown to the end of the brim.
Gauge:
There is no gauge for this pattern being worked in a round. It is ideal to know the circumference of the hat wearer’s head if possible. But if you don’t know it, there is a handy chart of estimated head sizes based on age included with the pattern!
That said, my personal gauge for this pattern was 20 sc and 4 rows to equal a 4-inch square. This was done in the pattern of the brim, which is single crochet in back loops only.
Pattern Notes:
The Isabel beanie hat looks intricate and has a lovely detail to it but it is so effortless to make! It works up quickly and easily while maintaining the look of an elaborate design. The pattern was well-written and included photos for some parts but they aren’t necessary at all to follow along.
I think this hat would be so cute in multiple colors, highlighting the bobble rows! Give it a try and add your favorite accent to it!
