Crochet pattern review of the Angel Bookmark pattern found in the Retro Christmas Ornament book published by Leisure Arts, however, I’m using it as an ornament, as will give you four other ideas for it!

Leisure Arts reached out not too long ago asking if I was interested in reviewing this book with you (so I received it for free to do so). Unfortunately, I had big plans to share one angel project a week until now, but I have been working long days at my retail job, and haven’t had much time for working on anything. Maybe we’ll do a Christmas in July thing here next year?

Flipping through the book, towards the end I found the Angel Bookmark pattern I used. They are worked in such soft, beautiful colors. I am also in love with the background with the silvery flakes and red flowers.
I knew I wasn’t interested in a bookmark, but what to change it to? I popped in to see my stash, and I found some gray Lily Sugar n Cream. My thought was to turn it into either wall art, like my Lucky Shamrock Wall Art, or a throw pillow (with the angel as an applique).

I was really excited when it was done, but while taking photos, I realized I used two different shades of the same color… And it bothered me… I ended up putting it into my donation box, and moved on for the time being.

Next angel was worked in a metallic sewing thread with the intention of turning it into earrings, but after it was finished, it was a little too wide for earrings. The metallic sewing thread really makes it a stunning little piece though, and while on the smaller side, would be a really pretty ornament, applique, or even a guardian angel for your car. This one I think I will be turning into a handmade card at a later date, like my Jessie’s St. Patrick’s Day Card.

The final angel I made with this pattern was made with Vanna’s Glamour Yarn – I love this yarn line for things like ornaments because the metallic is so fun, and pretty, plus it’s a lightweight yarn, which is ideal for these types of projects. I am so sad that it’s been discontinued, but I do have some left in my stash.

Materials I Used:
- Small Amount of Metallic Sewing Thread, Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Glamour #2 Yarn, [and Lily Sugar n Cream #4 Yarn]
- Respectively: 0.75mm, C2.5mm, [and H8/5mm] Crochet Hooks
- #18 Tapestry Needle
- Angel Bookmark Pattern from the Retro Christmas Ornaments book from Leisure Arts (here is the digital version)
Material Notes:
The original pattern uses a #10 crochet thread, but as you can see, I’ve changed it up to see what other things I could come up with. So many possibilities!
Time Spent:
Less than 45 minutes

Measurements:
Sewing Thread: About 2.5″ Tall (misplaced it before measuring)
Vanna’s Glamour: 6.25″ Wide from Wing to Wing by 5.63″ Tall
Lily Sugar n Cream: 10.25″ Wide from Wing to Wing by 9.75″ Tall
Pattern Notes:
This pattern was so easy to follow, and the finished angel worked up so quickly. As you can tell, I went a little crazy making three of them!
The only thing that I worked differently was the last stitch of Row 9 – I changed it from a double crochet to a chain two and join to help give it the same look and finish as the beginning of the row.

Very lovely pattern. I would definitely use it as a bookmark – great for shut-in’s or people in nursing homes. Or as an ornament or for the car! Would bring a smile to many faces. Never too early to start on next year’s holiday projects:) Thank you and hopefully a sunny Florida Christmas – I live here too!
I hadn’t thought about it, but what a lovely gift idea to pair with a new book (or word puzzle book?) to donate to a local nursing home!
Great pattern. This would be great to embellish Christmas gifts!
Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.

I’m hosting Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday this week if you’d like to head over and link up your project – https://www.simply-crafting.co.uk/2020/01/reusable-face-cloths-from-baby-muslins.html
Thank you for the pattern – and review. It’s always appreciated to have someone else’s comments. And the angel was just in time for Christmas.
I try my best to share as much as I can about the patterns I try! It’s one of my favorite things to do, and I love when someone comes back and tells me that it helped them!
Love all your angels. Thanks for joining in the party.
I love Vanna White’s yarn but didn’t know she had glitter yarn. I’ve never seen it in box stores and I’m not one much for buying online…I need to feel the squishy first…lol
These angels look great π
