Lily’s Floral Wall Hanging – Free Crochet Pattern

May 29, 2020

This is a free crochet pattern for how to crochet a floral wall hanging.

This post contains affiliate links for LoveCrafts and WeCrochet. If you make a purchase by clicking on them, I make a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!

Find the free crochet pattern instructions below, or purchase a printer-friendly, ad-free PDF on Ravelry by clicking here.

I’ve been on a roll this month working on my “April Showers Bring May Flowers” series, and I’ve really had a lot of fun with it! To conclude it, I am sharing a sweet floral wall hanging. Use it to decorate for Spring, (and even works for Summer) or for a little girls room.

If you like this design, you may also like these free crochet patterns worked in the same floral motif: Easy Floral Coasters, Sunflower Shawl, Floral Hoop Earrings

AD-FREE, PRINTER FRIENDLY PDF:

If you would like a PDF version of this post, you may get one through either my EyeLoveKnots Etsy Shop, Ravelry or LoveCrochet Shop for a small fee. This fee is to compensate for the views lost when you no longer need to return to the blog to for the information, as you will have your own copy. Plus! It helps fund supplies for new projects to share with you!

Materials:

  • 252 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Lily Sugar n Cream in (MC) Yellow for the flower centers (85 yards), in (CB) Rose Pink, Mod Blue, White & Red for the petals (96 yards), and in (CC) Hot Green for the Leaves (70 yards)
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers
  • 16″ (or longer) Dowel – mine came from a local bird shop

Material Notes:

Yarn Alternatives to Lily Sugar n Cream: WeCrochet Dishie, Bernat’s Handicrafter, Red Heart’s Smoothie, Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Rico Creative Cotton Aran

Each flower requires almost 12 yards of yarn, and each of the leaves requires 4 yards of yarn.

I used cotton yarn because it is what I used for the other designs in my “April Showers Bring May Flowers” series from this month, but any yarn will work.

Jewelry pliers are an excellent tool to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle.

Time Spent:

  • Flowers: Just over 15 minutes each.
  • Leaves: 5 minutes each.
  • Entire Wall Hanging: About 5 and a half hours.

Measurements:

  • Flower: Taken from the position of one petal at the top center, 3.75″ wide by 4.25″ from tip of top petal to tip of bottom petal
  • Wall Hanging: 13.63″ Wide from one petal across to the other, 18.38″ from top of dowel down, and 26.75″ from nail down

Gauge – Not Essential:

16 HDC by 10 Rows = 4″

Abbreviations:

  • SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
  • DC – Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)

Pattern Notes:

To avoid being penalized for too much duplicate information, visit my Lily’s Floral Table Runner (free crochet pattern) for notes on the flowers, leaves and outline.

Pattern:

Visit my Lily’s Floral Table Runner (free crochet pattern), and follow the pattern to work up 4 rows of flowers, and 3 rows of leaves in between. There is a photo tutorial there if you need help joining the motifs. When you are done, come back here to turn it into a wall hanging.

Half Leaves in the Center – Work 3:

Note: Do not weave in the ends for these 5 just yet. You will be working into the rings when you work across in the Finishing instructions, and it’s easier if they aren’t closed up.

Rotate your fabric 180 degrees so the top is closest to you.

In Green, chain 5. Slip stitch join to the first chain to form a ring. Chain 2, DC into the ring, chain 1, from behind: SC into a SC that is in between petals, chain 1, 3 DC into the ring, chain 1, from behind: SC into a SC that is in between petals, chain 1, 2 DC into the ring. Fasten off.

Half Leaf on the Current Right:

In Green, chain 5. Slip stitch join to the first chain to form a ring. Chain 2, DC into the ring, chain 1, from behind: SC into a SC that is in between petals, chain 1, 2 DC into the ring, chain 1, from behind: SC into the chain space of the outside petal. Fasten off.

Half Leaf on the Current Left:

In Green, chain 5. Slip stitch join to the first chain to form a ring. Chain 2, from behind: SC into the chain space of the outside petal, DC into the ring, chain 1, from behind: SC into a SC that is in between petals, chain 1, 2 DC into the ring. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Rotate the fabric back 180 degrees so you can work along the top.

Making sure the right side is facing you, attach Green into the center of the ring of the leaf furthest right. Chain 1. SC into the same ring, and evenly two times into the side of the DC, chain 3, HDC into the chain space of the next petal, chain 3, [evenly SC two stitches into the side of the next DC, SC into the next ring, and evenly two times into the side of the DC, chain 3, HDC into the chain space of the next petal, chain 3] 3x, evenly SC two times into the side of the next DC, SC into the last ring. [21 SC, 4 HDC, 8 chain 3 spaces]

R2: Chain 1, turn. SC into the 1st 3 SC, 3 SC into the next chain space, SC into the next HDC, 3 SC into the next chain space, [SC into each of the next 5 SC, 3 SC into the next chain space, SC into the next HDC, 3 SC into the next chain space] 3x, SC into each of the last 3 SC. [49 SC]

R3: Chain 4 (counts as a DC + chain 1), turn. Skip the 1st 2 SC, DC into the next SC, [chain 1, skip the next SC, DC into the next SC] 23x. [25 DC]

R4: Turn. Chain 70. Slip stitch to the last stitch – the 2nd chain of that beginning chain 4.

Fasten off, and weave in ends, then weave dowel in and out of Row 3.

This is so cute! I don’t have the wall space, but I think it would make an adorable table runner!

I did make a table runner with it -> https://eyeloveknots.com/2020/05/lilys-floral-table-runner-free-crochet-pattern.html. And I LOVE IT! Makes me so happy to walk by, and see on my entryway table.

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
