Let me start off by saying that I do not have a green thumb by any means. But when I saw this delightful plant hanger, I knew I had to make it. Plus, as you’ll see, it ended up versatile enough that it can be used to store small objects like keys or you could extend the base to be deeper to be able to store larger things as well. I love how it looks super cute anywhere I hang it, too!
Materials I Used:
- Bernat Maker Home Dec yarn in Aqua
- 2 inch wooden ring
- N15/10mm crochet hook
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Cozy Crochet Plant Hanger, Paid Crochet Pattern from FebruarySkyDesigns via Etsy

Material Notes:
The pattern also calls for a 1.5 inch wooden ring and optional wooden beads. I personally didn’t like the look of the extra ring and tassel so opted to leave it off. Additionally, I know that the yarn called for can be difficult to find at times or if you do manage to snag a skein, it can be spendy. I haven’t used it yet myself (so please comment and let me know if you have) but I have heard through the yarn community that Big Twist Textile yarn from Joann craft stores is a very comparable substitute. The pattern does note that any yarn weight and hook size can be used to make different sized plant hangers as well. This would make for a great scrap buster!
Time Spent:
This plant hanger took me 30 minutes to complete. It is a great item to work up quickly and stock up on for shops or craft shows. Between the liberties given with choice of yarn weights and hook sizes and the speed with which these are made, this is a great project for making lots of inventory while still using what you already have available to you.
Measurements:
Using the yarn and hook size from the pattern, the hanger measures about 8 inches long, empty and without the ring or tassel included in that measurement. When it is laid flat, it is approximately 7 inches wide at the widest area. However, this is completely adjustable to whatever you would like by either changing the yarn weight or hook size or you could just add more rounds in the middle to make a long, deep pocket instead.
Gauge:
The gauge is not necessary with this pattern.
Pattern Notes:
This pattern is clearly written and includes excellent photo references to accompany the instructions. The hanger is made using two strands of yarn held together so it is thick and sturdy. This is a great pattern for all skill levels and I can’t say enough how much I love the material freedoms. This pattern has become an instant favorite of mine and I can’t wait to make all kinds of hangers (not just for plants either)! What will you put in yours?
