I purchased the Juni Bobble Rainbow Blanket pattern from Mama Made Minis back in 2023, and I have been looking for a good reason to make it ever since. When I found out that my best friend was expecting identical twin girls and was decorating her nursery in rainbows and polka dots, I knew it was finally time to try this pattern out!
The Juni Bobble Rainbow Blanket pattern from Mama Made Minis is the original bobble rainbow blanket pattern that has since become super popular. It features gorgeous texture and can be made up in so many different color combinations. The pattern for the blanket also comes with a matching lovey pattern, although I haven’t tried that portion of the pattern out yet.
My best friend is absolutely in love with the blankets for her little girls! I am so excited for them to get to snuggle up in these blankets in just a few weeks!

What Materials Do You Need to Crochet a Rainbow Baby Blanket?
- Baby Bee Snugs & Kisses in Soft Snowflake, Cozy Rosy, Strawberry Daze, Sunny Season, Baby Jade, Blueberry, and Grape Jelly
- K10.5/6.5 mm Crochet Hook – I used my Clover Amour ergonomic hook!
- Yarn Needle
- Juni Bobble Rainbow Blanket, paid pattern by MamaMadeMinis via Etsy
Material Notes:
This blanket pattern was intended for worsted weight yarn. The designer recommends using Premier Basix Worsted or Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted Solids. I opted to go with blanket-style yarn to make a softer, plushier blanket. I loved the color combination of the different shades of Baby Bee Snugs & Kisses.
The pattern provides the yardage you will need for each color in the pattern. I used almost a full skein of each color in the rainbow, two skeins of white, and a second skein of the color that I used for the border in each blanket.
There are seven stripes on the rainbow in this blanket pattern, so ideally you will want to have seven different colors plus the base color. You could also use fourteen colors and make twice as many stripes in the rainbow. Because there were only six colors that I wanted to use of the yarn I had, I ended up making my last stripe of the rainbow in white and then switching up colors during the border to add some extra color.
The pattern called for a K10.5/6.5 mm hook to be used with the worsted weight yarn. Since I usually use that size hook with blanket yarn, I decided to stick with that hook size. In hindsight, I think it may be better to go up a few hook sizes so the stitches aren’t as tight together.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Rainbow Blanket?
These blankets definitely took some time to complete. I made both blankets over a span of about two weeks, working 2-3 hours per evening.
How Big is a Rainbow Baby Blanket?
The finished blankets measured approximately 41 inches wide and 39 inches tall.

Gauge:
The gauge provided in the pattern states that 11 DC stitches by 7 rows should measure approximately 4 inches by 4 inches. This gauge reflects the use of a K10.5/6.5 mm crochet hook with worsted weight yarn.
When I made this pattern with a K10.5/6.5 mm hook and super bulky yarn, my gauge swatch of 11 DC stitches by 7 rows measured approximately 5 inches by 7 inches.
All About the Juni Bobble Rainbow Blanket Pattern:
The pattern for the Juni Bobble Rainbow Blanket is relatively beginner-friendly. The pattern is made up of simple stitches including single crochets, double crochets, half double crochets, and treble crochets. Bobble stitches are used to make the bumps in the rainbow, but the pattern clearly describes the process for making them. The most complicated portion of the pattern, in my opinion, is adding the border. However, I still think this blanket is a really easy pattern to follow.
The pattern is meant to be made with either seven or fourteen stripes of color in addition to the base color that is used for the center and the border. Since I only had six colors other than white that I wanted to use, I opted to make the last stripe white and transition it into the border. I changed out colors in the border pattern to add some extra color and to make the two blankets a little different.
I got a little creative when I blocked my blankets at the end. I had some extra bulging happening in the center of the rainbow, so I stretched the blankets out while wet on a clothing rack to let them dry. While this helped stretch out the bulging a little, I still didn’t quite get a rectangle shape for the blanket like I wanted. I think this is mostly due to using too small of a hook for the stitching pattern with super bulky yarn. If I were to make this pattern again, I would be sure to go up a few hook sizes.
Overall, I’m really happy with how the blankets turned out! My friend loved them, as did everyone at her baby shower. I am so excited for her babies to use them!
