Elf Leg Earrings – Free Plastic Canvas Pattern

November 3, 2020

This is a free plastic canvas pattern for how to stitch elf leg earrings in plastic canvas. Work them up in your favorite colors – these represent my favorite elf, Buddy!

Welcome back to year 6 of our Festive Christmas Event!

In this event, we team up with a bunch of talented blogging friends to bring you a plethora of creative ways to celebrate your holiday season.

We will be baking some cookie recipes for you, sharing some party games, making some handmade gifts, doing some ornament crafting, and sharing our Christmas movies family fun. There will be breakfast recipes and as always our decorated Christmas Trees which is always a fun tour of homes.

You will find new ideas every Monday and Wednesday between Oct. 19th through Nov. 18th. Scroll all the way down to find all the ideas linked at the end.

Today the theme is Movies! I have so many favorite holiday movies, but I think it’s possible I’ve watched Elf more times than any other. Really, I love anything with Will Ferrell in it.

Last year, I asked my husband to get me a nutcracker for Christmas, and this cute little Buddy the Elf ornament is what he picked out (it’s from Hallmark). When you pull the lever in the back, it plays the line from the movie when Buddy says “son of a nutcracker!”.

Materials:

  • Small Amount of Lightweight (#3) Yarn – I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn Sportweight in Black, and Baby Bee’s Sweet Delight in Banana
  • #22 Tapestry Needle
  • Small Amount of #10 Mesh Plastic Canvas – I get mine at JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby
  • Two Eyepins – I used stainless steel ones I bought from Fire Mountain Gems
  • Two Earring Hooks – I used some stainless steel lever backs I bought from Bohemian Findings
  • Two Green Beads – I have had these in my stash for around 8 years, and originally got them from JoAnn’s
  • Jewelry Pliers
  • Optional, 1 Step Looper – I have the 2.25mm that I bought from Fire Mountain Gems

Measurements:

  • Plastic Canvas Piece: 1.81″ (13/16″) by 1.5″ (1/2″)
  • Dangle Down: 2.38″ (3/8″)

Pattern Notes:

For help with stitching, I have a photo tutorial in my Small Plastic Canvas Hearts post.

When opening the loop on your earring wires (or a jump ring), always pull it open towards you (not side to side), and close in the same manner.

For help with making a loop (if you don’t have a one step looper), I have photo tutorials for Forming a Basic Loop and Forming a Wrapped Loop (my favorite of the two).

Plastic Canvas Pattern:

As a blogger, I rely on views to my blog to earn money from my ads. Please do NOT share my graph photo, or save the graph photo to Pinterest. Doing so, would allow makers to not have to return to my blog, which would result in a loss of views and income.

Cut plastic canvas shape out twice (one for each side).

Continental stitch the sock/tights, which is the first 12 stitches across.

I am only showing the stitching for the left side. For the right side, make sure to flip the shape, and mirror the stitching.

Then, continental stitch the shoe.

Finish off by whipstitching in the respective color around the shape.

Earring Tutorial:

At first, my thoughts were just the plastic canvas elf legs attached to the earring hooks, but then as I thought about it during the day while I was at work, I remembered I had these green glitter beads in my stash, and thought they’d be great to represent Buddy’s coat.

I used my jewelry pliers to open the loop on the eye pin, then I attached it to the top center hole, and used my pliers to close the loop on the eye pin.

Next, I strung on my green glitter bead.

Then, I grabbed my one step looper, and made the loop.

I love my one step looper because it takes the guess work and time out of making my own loops, but if you don’t have a looper, I have photo tutorials for Forming a Basic Loop and Forming a Wrapped Loop (my favorite of the two).

I finished by adding my earring hook to the loop just created (and also shaped my loop a tiny bit because sometimes the one step loop does not finish it so well).

Ta-dah!

Please feel free to make and sell your own Elf Leg Earrings using this pattern, but please DO NOT claim this pattern as your own nor should you sell my pattern, and DO NOT re-publish my photos as your own. DO NOT copy and paste my pattern anywhere, link to it instead.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey! I'm Alexandra, the blogger and creator behind EyeLoveKnots and On Rockwood Lane! My passion is being creative. My favorite thing to do is crochet, and you will almost always find me having a cup of coffee and working on a new crochet project, but when I'm not doing that, you might find me out at a local park rollerblading, baking some fresh cookies, picking veggies in the garden or re-decorating for a new season or holiday. My two cats are great supervisors for all my adventures (minus the being outside because they think it's too hot in Florida to be anywhere but inside), and make sure I take plenty of breaks.
