After sharing my Super Easy Carrot Applique, I have had carrot projects on my brain – ha! Seriously though, I turned my applique into a Garden Marker for my Carrots, have been working on a garland to decorate my planter with, and now, an adorable little carrot inspired bag that is excellent for using as a soap cozy (gift a homemade soap with it!), candy/favor pouch (for the Easter basket, or to give at an Easter party or Bunny themed baby shower!) or as a gift bag (gift with some Spring/Easter themed jewelry!).
Photographed on my sweet little Spring porch! I found the three decor pieces you see at my local Home Goods store.

What Supplies Do I Need to Crochet a Carrot Cozy?
- 65 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Hot Orange and Mod Green
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Lily Sugar n Cream: WeCrochet Dishie, Bernat’s Handicrafter, Red Heart’s Smoothie, WeCrochet Dishie
Other Recommended Yarns (with I9/5.5mm Hook): Red Heart’s Super Saver, Caron’s One Pound, Bernat’s Super Value
Weaving in ends of a tough yarn, like cotton yarn, can be hard on the fingers. Sore thumbs and frustration can be a thing of the past by simply using jewelry pliers to [carefully] help pull the tapestry needle through the work.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Carrot Cozy?
This cozy took me about 45 minutes.
Measurements:
4.13″ Wide by 5.63″ Tall to SC Edge of Last Round (6.38″ Tall from Tip of Loopy Edge)
Gauge:
16 HDC by 10 Rows = 4″
Abbreviations (US Terms):
- HDC – Half Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
- DC – Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
- SC – Single Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain 1 does not count as a stitch, but beginning chain 3 in Round 13 does (double crochet plus chain 1).
Join to the 1st stitch of each round, except in Round 13 when you will join to the 2nd chain.
To keep my seam straight, I worked it in a way not stated in the pattern. I alternated between working one round of half double crochets beginning in the first stitch, and the next round beginning in the second stitch. Just make sure to work 30 stitches total, and the seam will barely be noticeable.
Carrot Soap Cozy/Bag Written Pattern:
In Orange, chain 15. 2 HDC into the 2nd chain, and the next 12, 3 HDC into the last chain, HDC into the next 12 along the opposite side of the foundation chain, HDC into the 1st stitch. Join. (30 HDC)
R2 – 12: Chain 1. HDC into each stitch around. Join with Green at the end of Round 12.
*I recommend weaving in the beginning tails after Round 3.
R13: In Green, chain 3, and turn. Skip the next stitch, (DC into the next stitch, skip the next stitch) 14x. Join. (15 DC)
R14: Chain 1. SC into the 1st stitch, and each stitch around. Join. (30 SC)
R15: Chain 1. SC into the 1st SC, chain 10, skip the next SC, (SC into the next SC, chain 10, skip the next SC) 14x. Join, and fasten off.
Tie Pattern:
In Green, chain 2. Work 4 SC into the 1st chain, slip stitch to the 1st SC. Chain 62. Work 3 SC into the 2nd to last chain. Slip stitch join, & fasten off.
Weave in ends, then weave tie in and out of Round 13.
