When deciding what I am going to crochet next, I like to choose things that I find functional, things that are trending or things that are more on the unique side. Or sometimes I have a direct need for the item, and I knock out two things at once by creating the item (for a gift perhaps) and I have a new blog review ready to go.

I have no good reason for making this stingray other than it is adorable! I was perusing Etsy for some new patterns when this little creature popped up on my feed and I was instantly in love! His big eyes, his squishy body and his tiny smile stole my heart and I had to make one of my own…which was then promptly confiscated by my daughter for the same irresistible reasons. Even the dog wanted him for herself!

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO CROCHET A STINGRAY?
- Worsted Weight #4 Yarn – I used Bernat Baby Velvet in the Vapor Gray and Ever After Pink colorways
- Black Embroidery Thread
- 15mm safety eyes
- H8/5mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Stuffing
- Pacific Disc Stingray, Paid Crochet Pattern from CrochetLovelyCrochet on Etsy.

MATERIAL NOTES:
This pattern calls for plush yarn for the body, and Bernat Velvet Yarn was perfect for it! It also calls for black yarn for the mouth, but I used embroidery thread for a less bulky-looking smile.
The designer recommends safety eyes that are 14mm but the closest I could find at the time was 15mm safety eyes (which only makes his eyes that much more adorable if you ask me).
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CROCHET A STINGRAY?
This amigurumi stingray took 1 hour and 15 minutes to make. That includes weaving in all the ends and adding the eyes and smile. It is a fairly simple pattern and uses only 2 stitch types for the whole project.
Measurements?
The length from muzzle to tail tip is 8 inches and the wingspan from tip to tip is 7.25 inches. There were no final measurements given in the original pattern, so this is what my personal creation worked out to be. I am sure the size could be easily adjusted to fit your personal preference by using a different hook size and/or yarn weight.

Gauge:
This pattern does not provide a gauge. My personal gauge was 16 single crochet by 8 rows to make a 4-inch square.
PATTERN NOTES:
This pattern was easy to follow, comes with step-by-step photographs and was written well. I highly recommend it if you are just as smitten with this little stingray as I was! Plus, it is a fun stuffed toy to make that’s different from the typical bears and bunnies you see. Make your own little cutie ASAP! You will love it!
